South Carolina Makes Top Five for 2027 Four Star RB Brayden Tyson
As the summer approaches, recruiting picks up across the country for college football teams. The South Carolina Gamecocks are no stranger to summer recruiting success under head coach Shane Beamer. Beamer and his staff are in on many prospects, including Brayden Tyson who has listed the Gamecocks among his top five for next season.
Tyson is a four-star tailback in the 2027 class, rated 353 overall and a top 40 player in the state of Georgia per 247Sports. The 6-foot and 230+ pounder from Brookwood High School in Snellville, Georgia, brings a nice balance of speed and physicality to the position.
Running back is a room in desperate need of added talent for the Gamecocks in 2027 and beyond. Don’t be surprised if the team adds multiple players at that spot after not landing a running back out of the high school ranks in each of the last two recruiting cycles. Matthew Fuller was the last tailback signed out of high school back in 2024.

David “Tre” Segarra is another 2027 running back who listed the Gamecocks among his top five schools back on Apr 13. He is a 5-foot-10 and 205 pounder from Byrnes High School in Duncan, South Carolina.
QB Jerry Meyer III and S Jernard Albright lead the class so far, but June and July is where classes really begin to take shape for Shane Beamer during his tenure.

SPARTANBURG COUNTY, SC. (WLOS) — The Spartanburg County Coroner’s Office has identified the fifth victim in a car crash that killed five people, including an off-duty Greenville Police Department sergeant.
Arturo Lean Munoz, 64, of Fountain Inn, South Carolina, has been identified as the fifth victim in the crash.

As previously reported, the collision that occurred in the morning hours of Friday, May 15, on Highway 101 involving two cars, a Ford SUV and a Toyota SUV.
On Friday, the Spartanburg County Coroner’s Office identified four of the five killed, including:
- Deborah Sue Wyatt, 50, of Duncan, S.C
- Max Douglas Wyatt Jr., 46, of Duncan, S.C.
- Greenville Police Department Sergeant Ashley Munoz, 35, of Woodruff, S.C.
- Maria Del Rosario Munoz, 62, Greenville, S.C.
Deborah Sue Wyatt and Max Douglas Wyatt Jr. were the occupants of the Ford SUV. Deborah was pronounced dead at the scene, the coroner’s office said. Wyatt Jr. was pronounced dead at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center at 4:06 a.m.
Ashley Munoz, Maria Del Rosario Munoz and Arturo Lean Munoz were the three occupants of the Toyota SUV who were pronounced dead at the scene.

As previously reported, Diana Munoz, a sergeant for the Greenville Police Department, was a passenger in the crash and was airlifted to a local hospital, where she remains in critical condition.
Ashley Munoz and Diana Munoz have two small children and were returning from vacation when the accident happened.

South Carolina football coach Shane Beamer said earlier this offseason that the Gamecocks would keep their transfer portal options open this spring. That has proven to be true.

Making his ascent to the SEC more impressive, Chen is still relatively new to football. He never played the sport until his upperclassman years at DeLand High School in Florida. Previously a basketball player, track athlete, and weightlifter, he adapted to the gridiron quickly.
As a player, Chen is a 6-8, 328-pound tackle. He saw action in 18 games across two seasons at Stetson, first winning a starting job as a true freshman in 2024. Chen was the Hatters’ primary starting left tackle in 2025.
On film, Chen shows off a strong base and heavy hands that allow him to stone pass rushers. He also has the size to make an impact as a run blocker.
Because he has played just two years, Chen has multiple seasons of college eligibility left. He adds real depth to a position room that will graduate at least seven offensive linemen after the 2026 season.
