Savannah Police detectives are investigating a shooting death a shooting that occurred Friday evening on the 200 block of West Montgomery Crossroads, according to a press release issued by SPD.

At around 8:20 p.m. on April 26, SPD officers responded to reports of an injured person. Upon arrival at the scene, officers found a person dead with multiple gunshot wounds.

Detectives interviewed witnesses on the scene and gathered evidence. Preiliminary findings suggest the victim got into an altercation with another adult male that led to the shooting, according to the press release.

William Duffin was identified as a suspect, and he was taken into custody by the South Carolina Highway Patrol and Barnwell County Sheriff’s Office without incident. Duffin has been charged with one count of aggravated assault.

According to SPD crime statistics, eight homicides have taken place within city limits.

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WYMT) – No. 4 Kentucky almost let another game slip away versus No. 24 South Carolina Saturday night.

After giving up a six-run first inning, UK rallied to tie the game in the fourth, and then take the lead.

The Wildcats scored 11 unanswered runs until the Gamecocks scored three in the sixth inning.

South Carolina gave Kentucky a scare, nearly hitting a game-winning home run in the bottom of the ninth.

With the win, Kentucky clinches a winning record in SEC play for just the eighth time in its history.

Grant Smith drove in four runs, Ryan Nicholson hit two home runs and Ryan Waldschmidt extended his hit streak to 12 games with four more hits and four runs scored on the evening.

UK moves to 33-8 on the season and 16-4 in conference play.

The rubber match against South Carolina will be tomorrow at 3:00 p.m.

Coming out of a 70-pick hole, the New England Patriots made their sixth selection of the NFL Draft at No. 180 in Round 6. They opted to go with their first defensive player: cornerback Marcellas Dial out of South Carolina.

Given his draft status, Dial is not a lock to make the team. However, there is a path for him onto a roster with some questions at his position.

Bernd Buchmasser: Dial might not have been the top-ranked cornerback on the consensus big board at No. 180, but he has something the Patriots need: experience playing outside cornerback. He offers good size and adequate speed, giving Mike Pellegrino something to work with. | B

Brian Hines: New England adds a developmental man corner to their secondary in Dial, who logged over 1,800 snaps along the boundary at South Carolina. He has the size (5’11”) and speed (4.46-second 40) to stay outside at the next level and also flashed strong ball skills with 25 pass breakups over the last two seasons. | B-

Dial is the ninth cornerback on a depth chart that is being led by Christian Gonzalez, Jonathan Jones and Marcus Jones. He will compete for a roster spot alongside them.
