Will Another Oklahoma State Transfer Commit to Oklahoma?

Oklahoma State’s transfers have ended all over the country, including a growing number of former Cowboys in Norman.

Bedlam football has been one of the hottest topics in the state of Oklahoma over the past few years. With the Sooners’ move to the SEC, the century-long rivalry came to a screeching halt in 2024. With neither side eager to cater to the other’s needs to renew the rivalry, its resumption is unlikely anytime in the near future.

While there is no doubt the fans on each side are still invested in the rivalry, and the fun hatred of college rivalries is still alive, the lack of any matchups on the schedule could contribute to the recent transfer portal phenomenon. Over the past few years, multiple key players for OSU have made the move to Norman.

Trace Ford was a high-profile move after the 2022 season and even talked trash about his former team ahead of OSU’s win in 2023. While he still had to play against his former school in an intense environment, none of the players who make the same move have that challenge anymore.

Kendal Daniels became the most recent player to transfer from OSU to OU, and some outlets have predicted that OSU’s latest portal entry, Jeff Roberson, could be taking the same path. For players so intertwined with Cowboy football and the OSU program, it would’ve been unheard of for players to make this type of move in years prior.

Considering the teams no longer match up, the rivalry becomes almost a non-factor in these moves. Instead, it has become a matter of a player wanting a different situation but still staying close to home, as Daniels and Roberson are both Oklahoma natives. It has even gone the other way as well, with Gavin Freeman and Kalib Hicks making the transition from OU to Stillwater over the past couple of years.

Conference realignment and the transfer portal have had a significant impact on basically every part of college football, and players transferring to their former school’s biggest rivals is something that won’t be going away.

Live OKC weather updates: Oklahoma braces for winter storm, snow

A severe winter storm is expected to bring a glaze of ice, dangerously cold temperatures, and potentially a foot of snow to Oklahoma City over the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service, the entire state should expect snow or a wintry mix to start on Friday, Jan. 23, during an “impactful winter weather event.” Temperatures are expected to drop and stay in the single digits through the weekend, and travel conditions north of Interstate-40 may be hazardous.

The storm is part of a major, widespread winter system that’s likely to spread damaging ice and heavy snow across several southern states, like Texas and Oklahoma, into the Carolinas and mid-Atlantic states. According to AccuWeather, the volume of snow and sleet could greatly impact communities not accustomed to winter weather, such as the southern Plains and Mississippi Valley, and schools or child care centers will likely close.

One of the hardest parts about losing electricity in the winter is trying to stay warm. According to OSU-OKC, there are some do’s and don’ts when it comes to heating your home during a power outage:

Do not use gasoline, propane or charcoal-burning devices inside your home or garage to avoid carbon monoxide poisoning.
Do not use your oven to heat your home.
Use fireplaces, wood stoves and other combustion heaters only with proper ventilation.
Keep space heaters more than three feet away from anything that could catch fire. Never cover your space heater.
Keep a fire extinguisher on hand.
Install a battery-operated carbon monoxide detector.
Have extra blankets and layered clothing on hand to help keep warm.

How to keep your house warm during a winter storm?

Set the thermostat to around 68°F to 70°F while awake and lower it while you’re asleep or away from home.
Set your water heater’s temperature to 120°F.
Change or clean air filters, which can lower energy consumption by 5% to 15%. Dirty filters cost more to use and overwork the equipment.
Apply weatherstripping and caulk to seal gaps and cracks around doors and windows.
Install foam gaskets on electrical switches and outlets.
Change the rotation of ceiling fans to a clockwise rotation to push warm air downward.

What’s next for former OKC indoor soccer facility after .12M sale?

A former indoor soccer facility in north Oklahoma City is now under new ownership.

Property deed history on the Oklahoma County Assessor’s website shows a transaction on Dec. 18 in the amount of $4.12 million for the Oklahoma City Sports Center at 11100 N. Kelley Avenue.

The more than 45,000-square-foot building with a metal frame and a gable roof was constructed in 2015 as an indoor tennis club, according to the site. Let’s Play Soccer hosted games at the facility as recently as 2024, social media posts show.

Terry Klaus, of Klaus Realty, who handled the buyer side, said the transaction on the property that sits on more than five acres closed on Dec. 22.

“(It’s) a special purpose sports-related facility in very good condition, with many parking spaces,” Klaus said. “It’s located in an up and coming area, near another high quality property occupied by The Academy of Classical Christian Studies North Campus.”

The new owner is now remodeling the interior of the property to accommodate a “high-quality tenant, with occupancy toward mid-year,” Klaus said, adding that the property is easily accessible, just east of Broadway Extension and Hefner Road.

Klaus said development is increasing in the area around the building, including residential expansion to the north and the nearby school, and its proximity to the highway makes it attractive for its future use. He said he couldn’t disclose what that use is, but he did mention a tenant is involved in a separate lease.

“It’s 10 years old, but it has all kinds of things we don’t usually see with buildings like that,” Klaus said. “It doesn’t look that old at all.”

The industrial property was featured earlier this month on a social media post by Newmark Robinson Park, acknowledging Karley Harper as lead broker alongside Brett Price and Kris Davis representing the seller side.

“This transaction underscores our team’s ability to create value through strategic execution and trusted relationships, even beyond the open market,” the post reads.

Can my neighbor do that? What Oklahoma law allows if you have issues

Wondering if you can park in front of someone else’s house, or fly a drone over your neighbor’s home? There’s a statute for that.

Oklahoma law can clarify if you can legally cut the overhanging limbs, drive in the left lane, be on your phone during a school zone and much more. Oftentimes, the common sense law may come into play, but that should not distract you from knowing the precise law before you decide to refurbish the shared fence.

If you’re looking for what to know about general neighborly deeds or casual traffic laws, here’s what to know according to state law, legal experts and city/state codes.

Is it illegal to park in front of a stranger’s house in Oklahoma?

According to Nolo, a publishing company for the legal industry, it’s not illegal for someone to park in front of a stranger’s house on a public street.

Generally speaking, you can park along any neighborhood street.

“An individual citizen does not ‘own’ or have any ongoing exclusive right to use a parking space on a public street,” attorney Brian Farkas wrote in a 2023 Nolo article. “These spaces are open to the public on a first-come, first-served basis.”

There are some glaring exceptions to the rule, however, like in front of any driveway, near safety zones and more.

When can kids stay home alone in Oklahoma?

Oklahoma doesn’t have a law dictating the age, but the state’s Department of Humans Services does have some guidelines.

Generally speaking, children under the age of six should never be left unsupervised, while those six and seven may be left alone but only for less than an hour.

The ages continue to vary depending on the age of the child and what the parent assesses the child’s development and functioning patterns.

Is it legal to trim a neighbor’s tree hanging over the fence?

Generally speaking, the law allows property owners to maintain their belongings as they see fit. That includes trimming branches that grow past the property line. Edmond, for example, has explicitly said landowners have the right to trim trees or bushes that encroach on the property.

If the tree trunk or bush straddles the property line, both property owners are responsible for caring for shared trees and other shrubbery.

Be careful, though. Oklahoma courts can order you to pay 10 times the cost of someone else’s tree if it’s wrongfully damaged.

Is it legal in Oklahoma to shoot a drone hovering over your property?

The simple answer is no, you cannot shoot down a drone that’s over your or anyone else’s property.

For over a decade, both Congress and the Federal Aviation Administration have classified drones as aircraft.

It means that when it comes to disrupting something that’s flying in the air, the United States treats drones the same way as any other aircraft that can actually carry people. It’s also terribly unsafe to fire a gun into the air, and you may be liable in civil court for disrupting a business’ legitimate operation.

Can I shoot a gun on my property in Oklahoma?

It depends on local ordinances, but state ordinance notes that every person who fires a pistol, rifle, shotgun, air gun or other weapon in any place where anyone can be harmed can receive a misdemeanor charge.

What Oklahomans may do, as stated by officials with the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation, is that when firing guns, either privately practicing with targets or hunting, users need to ensure bullets do not leave the property and/or harm an individual.
