Recruiting never stops for the Oklahoma Sooners. The Sooners are still on the hunt to close out their 2024 Recruiting Class strong.
The next scheduled announcement is four-star defensive lineman and top 100 player, Nigel Smith II. Smith is a 6-foot-5 and 260-pounder from Melissa, Texas.

Smith is set to commit this Friday at 7:25 p.m. CT. He is choosing between a number of schools with Oklahoma perceived to be the heavy favorite.
In fact, Oklahoma received three new predictions for Smith II. One was from 247Sports’ National Recruiting Analyst Mike Roach, another from Rivals National Recruiting Analyst Cole Patterson and the latest one from Rivals Midwest Recruiting Analyst Dylan Callaghan-Croley.
Good height and general build that fits myriad front-line defensive roles. Strength- and power-oriented defensive playmaker who often overwhelms high school blockers. Displays above-average first-step explosion. Capable of getting on top of offensive linemen quickly and getting them on their heels. Also flashes knife-through ability at times to make plays in the backfield. Encouraging redirecting suddenness for a bigger-bodied D-lineman. Legitimate high-major defensive line prospect with a desired multi-sport background (basketball) that often reflects in on-field functional athleticism. Ideally, more physical and athletic data becomes available between junior and senior seasons, but appears to own physical traits and on-field context to eventually become a quality P5 defender with a long-term ceiling that could lead to the NFL. – 247Sports National Scouting Analyst Gabe Brooks
Smith is kind of the forgotten man because his recruitment has been so low-key. He doesn’t talk about it much and you don’t hear rumors about him each and every day. But he’s a guy that in most years would be Oklahoma’s top defensive line recruit. People forget just last year he was a five-star prospect.
Now the Sooners still have to close, but Smith is no slouch and someone who can make an early impact at Oklahoma. He’s the kind of guy you want and need when heading to the SEC.
