NC governor to participate in White House meeting amid concerns over Biden’s debate performance

North Carolina’s Gov. Roy Cooper plans to participate virtually in a White House meeting today with other Democratic governors across the country and President Joe Biden, according to the governor’s office.

The meeting, confirmed by the White House, comes after a group of Democratic governors talked on Monday about concerns over the current president’s run this November without the president, USA TODAY reports. Much of the concern surrounds Biden’s debate performance last week where he was seen freezing and stumbling over his words. Biden, 81, has even told reporters it was not his best performance.

Governor call: Biden to meet with Democratic governors in wake of debate debacle, calls to leave ’24 race

Despite public calls for Biden to step down from the race and a flurry of potential replacements thrown out, Biden has not indicated he would do so. In fact, during a rally in Raleigh the day after the debate Biden told visitors “I know how to do this job.”

During North Carolina Central University’s board of trustees meeting late last month, an important item of interest regarding the football team’s future schedule was announced, concurrent with renovations set to take place for a local National Football League stadium.

Bank of America Stadium, longtime home of the Carolina Panthers, is set to receive upgrades following an agreement with Tepper Sports (the Panthers’ ownership group) and the city of Charlotte, meaning the Eagles will possibly play an HBCU Classic at the stadium as soon as 2028.

Because of the agreement, “Tepper Sport(s) has agreed to allow North Carolina Central to play in 2028 and 2029 in the HBCU Football Classic,” a speaker at the meeting stated.

In June, the Panthers and Charlotte agreed to an 800-million-dollar renovation project to keep the team in the Queen City for at least the next 20 years. As of publication, the potential HBCU Classic is unnamed, and no opponent has been identified for the Eagles.

This would mark North Carolina Central’s third and fourth such games at Bank of America, as the 2022 Aggie-Eagle Classic with North Carolina A&T was played at BOA and will take place there again in 2027.

Tribal recreational marijuana sales begin in North Carolina

CHEROKEE, N.C. (FOX Carolina) – Adult members of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians and other federally recognized tribes can now buy recreational marijuana.

Great Smoky Cannabis Co., a dispensary that opened in Cherokee in April, made its first legal sale of adult-use cannabis on the Fourth of July.

Tribal members must be 21 or older and present a valid tribal membership card to purchase recreational cannabis.

Prior to Thursday, Great Smoky Cannabis Co. sold medical marijuana. The dispensary will continue to accept medical patient cards for customers regardless of tribal status.
