Ohio State Buckeyes Star Defender Projected to Land with Miami Dolphins

The Ohio State Buckeyes are loaded with NFL talent heading into the 2024 college football. Behind that NFL level talent, Ohio State is being widely predicted to compete for a National Championship.

One of those NFL talents on the roster is none other than star cornerback Denzel Burke.

Heading into his senior season, Burke is being viewed as one of the top cornerback prospects for the 2025 NFL Draft class.

CBS Sports recently released a new mock draft for the 2025 NFL Draft. While we’re still way early, it’s always intriguing to keep track of how players are viewed by draft experts.

In their new mock draft, they had Burke being selected by the Miami Dolphins with the No. 21 overall pick.

“Burke struggled through the 2022 season but bounced back in 2023, making his case as one of the best cornerbacks in this draft class. He welcomes man coverage and plays with physicality throughout the route.”

Speaking of his bounce-back sesason in 2023, Burke racked up 19 total tackles, a forced fumble, an interception, and eight defended passes. He’s expected to put together an even more productive season in 2024.

Burke will need to step up in a big way for the Buckeyes this season if they want to win a championship.

Ohio State is set to go up against some dangerous offenses. Oregon, Penn State, and Michigan are going to be major tests. Iowa might even be a bit of a trap game for the Buckeyes.

Hopefully, Burke will be ready to rise to the challenge and show off the lockdown potential that he has throughout the entire season.

Top 10 Dolphins Cuts Who Could/Should Be Back on the Practice Squad

Top 10 Dolphins Cuts Who Could/Should Be Back on the Practice Squad

Now that the Miami Dolphins have gotten down to the 53-player roster limit, the next orders of business will be tweaking that active roster and then putting together their practice squad.

The Dolphins will be able to have 17 players on the practice squad if the group includes one international player, and they have that with Dominican offensive tackle Bayron Matos.

As a refresher, the practice squad must include at least 10 players with two years of NFL experience or less.

Based on history, the majority of the practice squad likely will be filled with players they let go Tuesday, so we have our list of the top 10 candidates for the practice squad.

As another reminder, players with less than four years of NFL experience have to clear waivers by noon Wednesday before they can be signed to the practice squad. Vested veterans (four years or more) can sign with any team at any time.

With all that said, here’s our list of the top 10 candidates for the Dolphins practice squad among those players they let go Tuesday to get down to 53:

RB Chris Brooks — This player has shown really good potential as a runner in his two training camps with Miami and could also help on special teams. He was waived/injured, so he’ll have to get healthy, but there is talent there.

TE Hayden Rucci — The rookie free agent from Wisconsin put himself in contention for a roster spot with his blocking ability, and he’s got an NFL future.

DT Isaiah Mack — While he’s a bit undersized for the middle of the defensive line, Mack has some intriguing traits.

LB Curtis Bolton — This would be one of the veteran exceptions. He had a pretty nondescript stint with the Raiders before joining the Dolphins but may have been the most consistent linebacker on the team in the summer.

CB Isaiah Johnson — Johnson was one of three very impressive rookie free agents and he brings great size for the cornerback position.

CB Jason Maitre — This was another one of those impressive rookie free agents at cornerback. While he’s much smaller than Johnson, Maitre showed during the preseason he could cover and come up in run support.

S Mark Perry — Another rookie free agent, this one from TCU, Perry made himself noticed with his playmaking, particularly as a blitzer.

DB Nik Needham — This may have been the biggest name among the players who were released Tuesday, and his versatility and experience certainly could land him a spot on the practice squad if he doesn’t wind up signing with another team.

WR Erik Ezukanma — This was the most surprising cut of all from this standpoint, in part because moving on from him left the Dolphins with only four wide receivers on the active roster. If Ezukanma clears waivers, one would think Miami would bring him back.

DT Leonard Payne — The rookie free agent from Louisville was effective in training camp and the summer and looks like a prospect worth investing some time on.

Miami Dolphins star Jaylen Waddle inspires children to save and smile

MIAMI – Miami Dolphins star wide receiver Jaylen Waddle made a surprise trip to a local Boys and Girls Club in Fort Lauderdale.

Kids were in awe at seeing Waddle walk into the gym and erupted with cheers.

“It was great,” shared an excited child. “I’ve never seen him in real life.”

Waddle, the Dolphins, and Truist teamed up for a Day of Care spotlighting its “Beyond The Field” campaign, partnering with the Boys and Girls Club of Broward County.

Children of all ages could ask Waddle questions and receive a cool Dolphin backpack. But that’s not all!

The fun moved to the classroom, where Waddle partnered with Truist to teach kids the importance of saving money.

“You should save money for the future because if you need it, you have it,” shared 10-year-old Jeremy.

“Planting the seeds with some of these elementary school kids,” said Michael Lepera, Regional President- Trust.  “But you know, as they grow older and you continue that, that momentum.”

“I wish I had that growing up,” shared Waddle. “We never really went over financial literacy.  To introduce that to them at a young age is key, and, in my opinion, will help them in the long run.”

And so will this experience for Waddle, as we showed him our videos of the kid’s genuine joy.

CBS News Miami asked Waddle, “In your wildest dreams, did you ever imagine being able to have this type of impact on young people?”

“No, especially not playing a football game. It’s a kids’ game we get to play week in and week out.  To go out and give back and spend some time with them, the kids of the community I play in, it’s great.  And knowing that they had a good experience with me makes it more special,” said Waddle.

Some kids ended their day by helping Waddle paint a remarkable mural by the Northeast entrance tunnel to the stadium.

Waddle truly enjoyed his time interacting with the kids. He also said that with the season around the corner, the Dolphins are working hard to give the South Florida community a great season!
