Miami Dolphins Rated To Have 2nd-Best Running Back Tandem In NFL For 2024 Season
There’s a reason why the running back duo of veteran Raheem Mostert and rookie De’Von Achane was so effective for the Miami Dolphins last season. Turns out, they’re ranked the second-best in the NFL for the upcoming campaign.
Mostert has been on quite a journey in the NFL. After bouncing around four teams in his first two seasons, he found a home with the San Francisco 49ers in 2016. Over the next six years, Mostert established himself as a productive running back, including a trip to the Super Bowl in 2019.
This offseason, Mostert followed coach Mike McDaniel to the Dolphins, and the 31-year-old is now enjoying the best years of his career. He currently leads the NFL with 18 rushing touchdowns and ranks fourth with 1,012 rushing yards.
Meanwhile, the Dolphins added another dynamic backfield piece in the 2023 draft, selecting Texas A&M’s Devon Achane in the third round. He burst onto the scene in Week 3, erupting for 203 rushing yards, 30 receiving yards, and 4 total touchdowns in a blowout win over the Broncos. That performance earned him AFC Offensive Player of the Week and over 51 fantasy points.
While Achane is currently on injured reserve, he has shown the potential to be a generational talent. If he can maintain this level of production, the Dolphins’ backfield could be one of the most feared in the league for years to come.
Miami Dolphins Running Back Duo of Raheem Mostert and De’Von Achane Ranked as Second-Best in the NFL

The upcoming season won’t start until a few months later but Miami already has a potent duo in Mostert and Achane. In an article for Bleacher Report, Kristopher Knox details why the two running backs are ranked the second-best duo in the league.
“As a duo, Raheem Mostert and De’Von Achane are even scarier than McCaffrey and Mitchell. The Miami Dolphins have two explosive playmakers in the pair, and either could probably serve as a lead back for another team.
In fact, it was extremely difficult to rank Mostert and Achane behind our No. 1 duo.
Mostert and Achane both possess blazing speed, reliable hands, solid field vision and extremely versatile skill sets. Their traits fit Mike McDaniel’s offense to perfection, and they spent plenty of time last season frustrating opposing defensive coordinators,” Knox wrote.
Based on their schedule, the Dolphins are projected to obtain a 12-5 record for next season. This will put Miami as one of the top teams in the league and give them a chance to contend in the playoffs.
Of course, that projection will still change. If Miami succeeds, though, the duo of Mostert and Achane will be one of the reasons why.

Forward Brant Byers leaving Miami RedHawks for Penn State | Report
Travis Steele unpacks end of Miami RedHawks’ historic season
After a tough loss to Tennessee in the NCAA Tournament, Miami RedHawks head coach Travis Steele took a minute to reflect on a historic season.
Forward Brant Byers, who ranked second behind Peter Suder in scoring for the Miami RedHawks last season with 14.2 points per game, has committed to the Penn State Nittany Lions, according to a report via Twitter/X from DraftExpress’ Jonathan Givony.
Byers’ hometown of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, is about two hours south of State College.
Byers reportedly entered the transfer portal in March.
Byers also averaged 4.1 rebounds per game, and shot 47.8 percent from the field and 39.2 percent from 3-point range as a redshirt sophomore for the RedHawks. He was named an all-Mid-American Conference second-team selection.
Byers started 33 of the 34 games in which he played for the 32-2 RedHawks in 2025-26. He averaged 8.4 points per game off the bench one season earlier, as a freshman. Byers redshirted during the 2023-24 season.
Former Cincinnati Bearcats forward Josh Reed and former Xavier Musketeers forward Sasa Ciani are on the Nittany Lions’ roster.
The RedHawks received a commitment April 14 from Ball State transfer forward Preston Copeland.
