Heat advisory extended for Miami-Dade, Broward, Monroe counties

MIAMI – A heat advisory Miami-Dade, Broward, and Monroe, which was supposed to end at 8 p.m. Thursday, has been extended to 8 p.m. Friday.

Afternoon temperatures will be in the low 90s. However, combined with the humidity, the heat indices could reach up to 110 degrees on Thursday and Friday.

A heat advisory is issued by the National Weather Service when a heat index of 105 degrees or higher is expected for at least two hours in Miami-Dade. That is below Broward and the Florida Key’s heat index of 107 degrees for two hours.

Overnight temperatures will offer little relief. Lows will struggle to make it out of the 80s near the coast and the “feels like” temp will remain above 90 degrees for much of the night, according to the National Weather Service.

People are urged to drink plenty of fluids, but avoid those that contain caffeine, high sugar content, and alcohol. Stay in an air-conditioned room, limit the time you work or spend time outdoors during the hottest part of the day, and check up on relatives and neighbors.

Wear clothing that is lightweight, light-colored, and loose-fitting. If you’re outside, wear a hat and sunscreen to protect your face and scalp from harmful UV rays.

If you must be outdoors, slow down, take breaks in a shaded or cool area, and drink cool fluids every hour.

If you feel lightheaded, confused, weak, or faint, seek medical attention immediately by calling 911.

For dog owners wanting to take their four-legged friends for a walk, it’s important to remember the seven-second rule. Place your hand on the concrete for seven seconds. If it’s too hot for you, it’s too hot for your pet too.

FC Cincinnati make road history ahead of Supporters' Shield clash vs. Miami | MLSSoccer.com

In fact, Wednesday’s 3-2 victory at Audi Field made history for the Orange & Blue, who tied an MLS non-shootout era record with their seventh straight road win – previously set by CF Montréal in 2022.

Last year’s Supporters’ Shield winner also earned their league-best ninth away win of the season to keep pace with Miami, as the current Shield leaders also got it done on the road in Matchday 24 with a 2-1 win at Charlotte FC – their fourth straight victory without Lionel Messi or Luis Suárez due to Copa América commitments.

It sets up a massive weekend clash at TQL Stadium between the first and second-place teams in MLS. The Herons are on 47 points, but Cincinnati are just two points back with a match in hand.

“I give the guys credit because we’ve gone on the road two games here and gotten results, and it’s not easy to do,” head coach Pat Noonan said after the win, which came courtesy of a Pavel Bucha brace that followed Kevin Kelsy’s 10th-minute opener. “I told them before the game… ‘You guys are a good team on the road,’ and it might not always be the way we want it to look.

“That’s credit to the opponent, that’s credit to going on the road in tough atmospheres, but you have to be able to adjust at times and adapt to the conditions, and I think they do a good job of that.”

Your 2024 Miami Dolphins APY Leader!

Your 2024 Miami Dolphins APY Leader!

Last week, I discussed that while Tyreek Hill has been the all-purpose yardage leader for the Miami Dolphins offense over the last couple of seasons, the team now had other young weapons that were up and coming. I then asked the following question-

Do you think Tyreek Hill will continue to be the all-purpose yardage leader in 2024, or will Devon Achane or possibly another player you have in mind dethrone him?

Below are some of your thoughts and answers-

SlayerNation1 kicks us off with a declaration that Hill will continue to hold onto the title for another season.

Hill. He has just proven to be more durable and un-guardable and I doubt He has lost a step.

Waddle is a bit delicate and Achane was injured twice last season, albeit a small sample.

Hill 2100 AP yards, Achane 1600, Waddle 1400,

Dolfanjoe seconds Slayer, barring injury!

Barring injury , Hill without a doubt ! If another player comes close, well the season looks dam good !

TheRoo1 says it’s still Hill, but don’t sleep on OBJ!

Hill still tops yardage, but respect for OBJ is what gets him more single coverages. Defenses actually will have to worry about more than two passcatchers.

finfanfromsiam has one thing for us to know-

Hill…………………..!!

SuperG! did his research and still says Hill with a possibility of Waddle or Achane overtaking him.

I had to look up what’s in included in “all-purpose yards” and this is the answer I got.

“All-purpose yards is a statistic that combines a player’s rushing, receiving, punt and kickoff return, interception, and fumble return yards. Passing yards are not included in all-purpose yardage calculations.”

I still think Tyreek’s the winner, but I’m going to rule out Waddle since he was a distant second place last year and I don’t see him closing the gap. Perhaps A-Train as a long shot to win it.

daytonadolfan says it’s still Hill but spreading the ball around more would be excellent!

Barring injury I still have to go with Hill and Waddle close behind . Still ,I would love to see them spread the ball around so as not to be predictable .

Vozzo13 says if not Hill then it’s got to be Waddle.

Nahhhhh — If not Hill, then Waddle for sure. In fact, it wouldn’t surprise me if Waddle taking the lead this year IS the game plan (Hill is a class act – I think he’d happily bow out).

We once again have a consensus, with the majority saying it’s still Hill’s title to lose. However, some believe Waddle or Achane could also step up in 2024. Thank you to each of you who took the time to answer our question of the day. Everyone have a good and safe 4th tomorrow. We will be back with a random live thread tomorrow evening for those of you who will be around.
