CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A Kentucky man was sentenced Tuesday to prices related to a rip-off throughout a number of counties in West Virginia, Kentucky and Ohio.
William T. Hurst, 45, of Morehead, Kentucky, falsely agreed to construct pole barns for residents in Putnam and Jackon counties in March 2021. Hurst acquired funds totaling $10,186. He later admitted to cashing or depositing the checks for his private use. He had no plans to construct the barns.
Hurst later said he led related scams involving six different property homeowners in Cabell and Kanawha counties in West Virginia, in addition to Coolville and Willow Wooden in Ohio and South Shore, Kentucky. These property homeowners paid $25,032 for the deliberate work.
Hurst acquired an eight-month jail sentence for wire fraud. He may even serve three years of supervised launch and pay $35,218 in restitution.
