Danny Kanell reacts to Texas toppling Georgia as No. 1 team in AP Poll

Room for CONCERN with Georgia Bulldogs after Kentucky Win? Dawgs Offense Prepping for Alabama

Texas overtook Georgia on Sunday as the new No. 1 in the AP Poll. That’s bad news for the rest of college football, though, according to Danny Kanell.

Kanell gave his opinion of the flip of the Longhorns and Bulldogs at No. 1 and No. 2 in the latest poll in a tweet this afternoon. He says it’s exactly the motivation that Kirby Smart can use to get a point across to his team.

“Kirby Smart should send every single AP voter who voted Texas #1 some flowers,” tweeted Kanell. “Exactly what he needs to create that chip on the shoulder…”

Texas had slightly jumped to No. 2 last week over Ohio State with four first-place votes to give them a total of 1,492 points. That was still well behind the 54 first-place votes for Georgia with their point total of 1,566.

However, that flipped this week. The Longhorns received 35 first-place votes over the 23 for the Bulldogs. That gave Texas a total of 1,540 points to create another small margin of 22 points between them and Georgia at 1,518 to give them the top spot in the AP Poll.

It now represents the highest ranking for the Longhorns in the poll since 2008.

Texas earned this rating after a third impressive victory to open their season. They’ve won by an average of 40 points per game in their 3-0 start. That includes their 31-12 win over No. 10 Michigan in The Big House as well as the 56-7 outcome this weekend against UTSA.

As for Georgia, their first two weeks were equally excellent with a 31-point win over No. 14 Clemson and a 48-3 win over Tennessee Tech. Still, the ‘Dawgs nearly suffered their first regular-season loss in almost four years in the bluegrass last night. They entered the fourth quarter behind but managed to survive with a 13-12 victory over Kentucky.

These two teams in the SEC are viewed among the very best in the nation. Still, at No. 2 instead of No. 1 now without a loss yet, Kanell thinks Smart can use this to his advantage with the Bulldogs.

The latest AP Top-25 rankings are in after the third weekend of college football and there were some shake-ups.

How to Watch: Louisville Cardinals vs. Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Louisville football program is coming out of the first bye week of their season, and their first matchup vs. a power conference opponent is awaiting on the other side, with Georgia Tech coming to L&N Stadium this weekend for Louisville’s ACC opener.

The No. 19/20 Cardinals (2-0, 0-0 ACC) haven’t faced stout competition to open their season, but have dominated the two teams in front of them. They opened up the 2024 season with a 62-0 demolition of Austin Peay, then followed that up with a 49-14 beatdown over Jacksonville State.

As for the Yellow Jackets (3-1, 1-1 ACC), they were able to bounce back after a slight hiccup. A week removed from falling 31-28 at Syracuse for their first loss of the season, they were able to get back in the win column with a 59-7 victory against FCS foe VMI.

This will be the fourth all-time meeting between Louisville and Georgia Tech, with the Yellow Jackets holding a 2-1 advantage in the series. While GT won the first two showdowns, the Cardinals won the most recent matchup, claiming a 39-34 win at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Ga. back on Sept. 1, 2023 in what was Jeff Brohm’s first game as the head coach of his alma mater.

Georgia vs Alabama Betting Odds

Georgia vs Alabama Betting Odds

A look at the spread between Georgia vs Alabama for the week five matchup.

The Georgia Bulldogs are on a bye week as are the Alabama Crimson Tide this week following week three action and ahead of their week five matchup. Georgia is coming off of a week three scare in which they squeaked by Kentucky by a final score 13-12 while the Crimson Tide routed the Wisconsin Badgers. Both teams are 3-0 heading into this highly anticipated matchup and the betting odds for this game indicate a typical Georgia vs Bama game.

This year’s game will have a different look and feel to it. Nick Saban will not be on the other sideline across from Kirby Smart for the first time in Smart’s career and Georgia will be making the trip to Tuscaloosa for the first time since 2020. This is the first of three keynote road trips Georgia will be making this season as they will also travel to Texas and Ole Miss later in the year, and despite their rough performance against Kentucky, the sportsbooks still like the Dawgs.

Georgia vs Alabama Betting Odds:

According to Draft Kings, Georgia is a 4.5-point favorite. This is a line that is definitely expected to move throughout the next two weeks as the game inches closer, but for now, the Bulldogs remain the favorite heading into this top-5 game.

Tate Ratledge Injury Status Updated – What Now For Georgia

Tate Ratledge Injury Status Updated – What Now For Georgia

The Georgia Bulldogs narrowly escaped Saturday night’s SEC Debut against the Kentucky Wildcats. Thought the 13 to 12 victory at Kroger Field in Lexington, Kentucky didn’t come without loss. Georgia starting offensive guard and team captain, Tate Ratledge suffered a Grade two Ankle sprain, and a sprain of his MCL, as first reported by DawgsHQ.

The projected timetable for return for Ratledge is hopefully nearing the conclusion of the second bye week of the season prior to the Florida matchup on November 2nd. So, for the next six weeks, Georgia will look to Micah Morris at the right guard position with the freshman Daniel Calhoun now taking Micah Morris’s spot as the swing guard. However, veteran Xavier Truss does have guard experience throughout his now six seasons in Athens. Fortunately for Georgia, they are one of the few programs in the country that have a tremendous amount of depth on the offensive line.

MIcah Morris, Ratledge’s immediate replacement has played in all three games this season and was already a heavy part of the rotation for the Bulldogs for the better part of the last two seasons.
