These 15 intersections are the deadliest in Dallas for pedestrians

A plan to reduce traffic fatalities in Dallas has identified more than a dozen road segments that are the most dangerous for pedestrians.

Preliminary data shows pedestrian injuries in Dallas crashes last year were the highest since 2019, though numbers are trending down this year so far.

Eighteen months ago, Dallas joined more than 45 other cities nationwide in pledging to address traffic safety. Its Vision Zero plan is aimed at eliminating traffic fatalities and cutting severe injuries in half by 2030.

“High injury networks” identified in the plan — streets that account for the highest percentage of crash-related deaths and serious injuries — are a focus area for city leaders.

Among collisions involving pedestrians, those areas are:

  • Maple Avenue at Hudnall Street to Oak Lawn.
  • MLK Jr. at SM Wright to Botham Jean Boulevard.
  • Great Trinity Forest Way at Ledbetter Drive to I-45.
  • Wheatland at Duncanville city limit to Kirnwood.
  • Ledbetter Drive at Lancaster Road to Great Trinity Forest.
  • Bruton Road at Prairie Creek Road to Masters Drive.
  • Buckner Boulevard at John West Road to I-30.
  • Jupiter Road at I-635 to Garland.
  • Cedar Springs Road at Dallas North Tollway to Turtle Creek.
  • Forest Lane at Audelia Road to Garland city limit.
  • Jefferson Boulevard at Edgefield Avenue to Zang Boulevard.
  • Jefferson Boulevard at Zang Boulevard to Fleming.
  • Great Trinity Forest Way at Jim Miller Road to U.S. Highway 175.
  • Cedar Springs Road at Turtle Creek Boulevard to Field Street.
  • Northwest Highway at Harry Hines Boulevard to Timberline Drive.

Only about 2% of Dallasites walk to work, but pedestrians account for 30% of traffic deaths. It’s why some residents are calling for designated downtown spaces that prioritize pedestrian access.

The program, now entering its fifth year, is open to Dallas residents ages 13 to 17. City leaders say the initiative, which launched in 2021, helps promote positive engagement opportunities for teens and reduce crime during the summer months.
