AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) – Georgia Deputy State Revenue Commissioner Chester Cook spoke to the Rotary Club of Augusta on Monday, Dec. 1, 2025.

Cook talked about the push to eliminate the state income tax. He said his department is not involved in those discussions, but they are paying close attention to the topic.

“We’re as interested as others as well, just tracking legislation to see what’s going to come out,” cook said. “We would likely be, whatever that looks like, the collector or not-collector of the tax revenue.”

Cook said large revenues have helped Georgia to provide taxpayer rebates and tax credits.
