Arkansas vs. Ole Miss: Early point spread released on Razorbacks, Rebels

After Ole Miss picked up a vital 55-49 win over No. 13 LSU on Saturday, oddsmakers are confident in the Rebels. According to FanDuel, Ole Miss is a 12.5-point favorite over Arkansas in the teams’ Week 6 matchup.

Ole Miss looked fantastic in its win on Saturday, exploding for 706 total yards against LSU. For reference, the team averages 470.2 yards per game, the 22nd-most in the country. The win was a much-needed bounce back for Ole Miss, who fell to Alabama in Week 4.

After the game, head coach Lane Kiffin praised his team’s resiliency.

“I’ll tell you my story line. We’re down two scores in the fourth quarter and it would have been easy to give in,” Kiffin said. “We get two stops, drive the field twice, no fluke plays, 700 plus yards, no turnovers, score (twice) and win this game. So proud.”

Arkansas stuck in downward spiral

Arkansas head coach Sam Pittman doesn’t have as much to be proud about. The Razorbacks are on a three-game losing streak, most recently falling to Texas A&M 34-22 on Saturday.

The loss is a low-point for Arkansas. In the defeat, the Razorbacks picked up just 10 total first downs and recorded only 174 yards of offense. For comparison’s sake, the Aggies gave up 222 yards to UL Monroe. After the disappointing performance, Pittman is questioning what’s next for the Razorbacks.

“You always re-evaluate, you always evaluate what you’re doing. The thing that is bothersome because sometimes you go play somebody and they’re doing something you didn’t practice,” Pittman said. “What’s bothersome about it is we practiced it and what they gave us was we practiced it. I don’t think we have too much offense in or anything of that nature.

“I don’t know if you or I could say we do this, this and this well. We thought the stretch play was going to help us and we didn’t do it very good, either. Maybe it is cutting something back and say we’re going to run four plays and that’s it. But whatever it is didn’t work at all tonight. It’s a legit question.”

Perhaps a familiar rival is exactly what Arkansas needs to propel itself forward. The Razorbacks boast an all-time 37-29-1 record over Ole Miss. Arkansas defeated the Rebels 42-27 in the programs’ meeting last year.

Ole Miss doesn’t plan on letting the Razorbacks start a streak. The two teams will square off at 7:30 p.m. ET on Saturday. The game will be broadcast on the SEC Network.

Helena-West Helena Police Chief Vincent Bell said he doesn’t know much more about what happened at the jail, but said the inmate is connected to a fatal shooting Tuesday afternoon.

The suspect was being held in connection to an incident where a man was shot dead in the doorway of O’Reilly Auto Parts in West Helena.

The shooting was the result of a disagreement that started in front of a motel, and the victim ran to the front of O’Reilly’s where he was fatally shot.
