Mass. woman, her mother in critical condition after crash on New England highway

A 24-year-old Brockton woman and her mother, 52, are in critical condition at a Vermont hospital after their car hydroplaned and struck a group of trees, Vermont State Police said in a statement.

State Police troopers learned of a single-vehicle crash with an unconscious occupant around 8:12 a.m. Sunday. When they arrived, they found two women who were unresponsive and severely injured. The women were removed from the car and taken to University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington, according to the statement.

The women were identified as Denea France, 24, of Brockton, and Dawn France, 52, of Flushing, New York, State Police said.

Eyewitnesses told troopers the car, an Alfa Romeo Stelvio SUV, was heading north on Interstate 89 in Colchester in the left lane at “an extremely high rate of speed” and then hydroplaned, exiting the road on the righthand side and hitting a group of trees, according to State Police.
