PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Saturday night was a celebration for Steeler Nation, where four icons who helped shape the rich history of the Pittsburgh Steelers were recognized in the Hall of Honor.

The Steelers inducted four members into the Hall of Honor class of 2023 Saturday night at Acrisure Stadium ahead of Sunday’s mid-season matchup with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The legends include James Harrison, Ray Mansfield, Gerry Mullins, and Aaron Smith.

Together, they made their mark on history by being a part of 10 Super Bowl championships that paved the way for Steelers football.

“This puts you in that category of legendary Steelers,” Harrison said.

At the half-time show of Sunday’s game, the Hall of Honor class stood on the field to be recognized in a short ceremony.

Aaron Smith shared how he felt when he got the call.

“It was an unbelievable moment when I got the phone call. It was an unbelievable moment, but then to be here now and the reality of this to celebrate with my family,” Smith said.

Smith says they are still close as teammates and friends.

“They were good guys, and to be honest with you, a lot of us played together for 8-10 years, [and] you build those relationships, and you want to play for each other because you’re not just teammates, you are friends now.”

Ray Mansfield talked about the good days.

“We had a lot of great times in the 70s; we got to see the beginning of Steeler Nation and got to lay the groundwork of what this great organization is today.”

Saturday night and Sunday’s half-time show were filled with remembering and honoring the greats who helped shape Steelers football.

NORTH VERSAILLES, Pa. (KDKA) — Three men were arrested and charged with trafficking cocaine after a traffic stop in North Versailles on Tuesday, the Allegheny County Sheriff’s Office said.

Three out-of-state men, two from Florida and one from New York, were taken to the Allegheny County Jail after the sheriff’s office said a search of their vehicle turned up 15 kilograms of suspected cocaine.

The sheriff’s office said detectives developed information on Tuesday that a “significant” amount of cocaine was possibly being transported inside a white SUV. Detectives then tracked down the vehicle and pulled it over for a traffic violation in North Versailles.

During the traffic stop, the sheriff’s office said detectives noticed the men inside were nervous. They gave consent for an inspection of the outside of their vehicle, and a North Versailles K-9 indicated there were drugs inside.

The men inside denied consent to search the inside of the vehicle, but they were detained after detectives said they learned none of them had valid driver’s licenses.

After getting a search warrant, the sheriff’s office said authorities found 15 separate kilogram-size packages of suspected cocaine and a bag of suspected drug paraphernalia and packaging materials.

Forty-eight-year-old Alcedo Espinal of Florida, 34-year-old Yasser Collado Feliz of Florida and 48-year-old Guillermo Hernandez of New York were taken to the Allegheny County Jail for arraignment on possession, possession with intent to deliver and conspiracy charges.

Steelers Uncertain of George Pickens?

Steelers Uncertain of George Pickens?

PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Steelers are making headlines for their in-house wide receiver this time. Instead of talks about a potential trade for names like Brandon Aiyuk, DK Metcalf or Courtland Sutton, one team insider is discussing the future of George Pickens.

Coming into the offseason, the Steelers decided to trade Diontae Johnson to the Carolina Panthers and replace him with a few options including Van Jefferson and Scotty Miller. They then drafted Roman Wilson, hoping he and Calvin Austin turned into a dynamic duo in the slot. But at no point did Pittsburgh replace Johnson well enough to add another WR1.

Instead, they’ll lean on Pickens. Entering his third season, Pickens has one 1,000-yard year under his belt and showed at times last year that he was capable of being the superstar his talent allowed. Now, he’s going to get a shot.

But the Steelers aren’t done looking. They’ve been linked to rumors for several players, especially Aiyuk, which has come with several questions. The biggest one is surrounding Aiyuk’s contract extension, and how Pittsburgh would possibly afford both he and Pickens, if they made a trade.

Well, one insider believes the team isn’t sold on extending Pickens.

Added to the list of topics is Cam Sutton, the Miami Dolphins and a league insider declining a Steelers trade.

With roster bubble predictions being made, Sutton remains a name to watch. Here’s the problem – he’s not. The Steelers don’t have anyone to truly challenge him, and the benefit of having Sutton around is too high to move on.

As for the Dolphins, one team writer is calling out the Steelers. There was no need to take a shot at Pittsburgh, especially this early in the year, but he did it. Now, the Steelers have bulletin board material.

And finally, an insider declining a trade. Sorry, but things are changing.
