“We’re really excited to be able to be getting open as early as we are this year,” Brian McCloskey, marketing director of Mount Southington, said.
It was so warm last year at this time that they did not open until Dec. 23, but Mount Southington has been able to make snow overnight as of last Saturday.
Then, snow fell on Thursday in parts of the state and the temperatures remain cold.
“We didn’t get a jump on snowmaking because we didn’t have the temperatures for it, so this little cold snap, we love it,” McCloskey said.
“The mountain is actually in really good shape for, you know, the limited snowmaking window we’ve had. The guys were able to put a lot down, so we’ll be in really good shape this weekend,” McCloskey said.
Mount Southington has 14 trails and six of them will be open.
