CT state police investigating ‘street takeover’ in Vernon commuter lot

State police responded to a street takeover-style event in a commuter lot in Vernon Friday night.

The takeover event happened in a commuter lot off Interstate 84 near exits 64 and 65, according to a statement by Connecticut State Police.

State troopers, Vernon police and federal agencies were investigating as of Friday night, state police said. It was not yet clear whether any arrests had been made.

Police have been responding to a spike in the takeover style street racing events, during which illegal street racers and crowds of spectators take over a specific area by blocking roadways, intersections, parking lots or commuter lots, and made at least four arrests earlier this month, police have said.

On June 6, a juvenile was arrested and charged with inciting a riot in the second-degree, first-degree unlawful restraint and third-degree criminal mischief, in connection with a street racing takeover event in Tolland on May 21, police said.

Just days prior, police arrested three others who were allegedly involved in street takeovers. State police said the arrests were part of a final phase in a months-long investigation into street racing “takeover events” throughout Connecticut.

State police in May announced that they had charged one of the alleged ringleaders of the events.

Police: Street racing ‘ring leader’ arrested following multiple street takeovers

Last month, the state Senate voted unanimously to create a special taskforce to generate recommendations for deterring “street takeovers” that have become an increasing problem in multiple towns, including Wethersfield, Simsbury, Tolland and Bristol.

Street takeovers are rising in Connecticut. A state task force could be the answer to fight back.

A statewide tip line and website have been set up for the so-called street takeovers happening throughout the state. Connecticut residents can call 1-800-CALL-FBI or visit fbi.gov/cttakeovertips to submit photos, videos or information anonymously, state police said.

Police are advising Connecticut residents to turn around, seek an alternate route and call 911 if they come across a takeover event.

Connecticut man convicted in Vermont murder, attempted murder

CHELSEA, Vt. (WCAX) – A Connecticut man has been found guilty in a double-shooting in Vermont that left one man dead.

The Orange County state’s attorney says Devon Dennis of Hartford, Connecticut, was found guilty on Friday of second-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, aggravated assault and cocaine trafficking.

Vermont State Police said on May 12, 2023, Dennis shot two men in Brookfield. Juan Sierra, 27, was killed and Miguel Fuentes was injured. Both men are from Springfield, Massachusetts.

Investigators said it was over drugs.

Middlebury Restaurant Honored With Wine Spectator Award

Award winners are from all 50 states and more than 75 countries and territories. Awards are given across three categories: Award of Excellence, presented to about 2,150 restaurants; the Best of Award of Excellence, presented to about 1,531 restaurants; and the Grand Award, presented to only four restaurants, including two California restaurants, Grasing’s in Carmel-by-the-Sea and Lazy Bear in San Francisco.

The winning restaurant from Middlebury is Vyne Restaurant & Bar at 1365 Whittemore Road. The restaurant serves American and Mediterranean cuisine with a wine list strong in French and Californian wines, according to Wine Spectator.

Wine Spectator said the Award of Excellence winners generally have a wine list of at least 100 vintages, while the Best of Award of Excellence winners generally have at least 350 selections. The Grand Award winners have 1,000 or more selections, presenting diners with a depth of vintages from some of the world’s most acclaimed winemakers.

Singing Connecticut Banana is What Nightmares Are Made Of!

I like bananas, I really do but singing dead-eyed, soul-reaping bananas are another story altogether. Have you ever seen the opening credits of American Horror Story? If you haven’t, each season features at least one shot of an old school doll with alarming indifference in its eyes.

That is exactly what I saw when Hound Dog Lover 19 posted his new video to Youtube recently.

We can assume this thing is an inanimate object, just a mechanical toy meant to inspire wonder in children until it makes a painfully slow turn and locks eyes with you.

BOOM! Right there, that is the moment we graduate from innocence to chaos and find ourselves in the basement of despair. I have enough to worry about with work and keeping our household running smoothly, I can’t be concerned with whether or not my soul is safe at the local grocer.

Let’s ease up on the raged-out mechanical produce and do something a little more gentle with our imaginations. I saw this video a few weeks back and I have not slept since. I spend my evenings in my favorite chair, staring out the window repeating the word potassium over and over again.

P.S. I love Stew’s I just wanted to make that clear. I can eat a whole box of their cookies alone and I have.
