According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, the Boston Red Sox and Detroit Tigers are seen as “co-favorites” for All-Star third baseman Alex Bregman.
Nightengale adds that there has been no new movement on the Houston Astros front with regards to Bregman. Rumors circulated last weekend that Bregman could return to Houston, especially as the Astros moved money around by dealing Ryan Pressly to the Chicago Cubs.
While it seems almost inevitable that 1B Pete Alonso returns to the Mets, the Detroit Tigers and Boston Red Sox loom as co-favorites for 3B Alex Bregman with no movement in Astros talks.
The 30-year-old Bregman has had one of the more curious free agent cases of the offseason. Early reports indicated that he got a six-year offer worth $156 million from the Astros, but he declined it in search of last $200 million. However, those deals haven’t come and Bregman also seems resistant to taking a shorter-term deal, leaving him in a holding pattern.

The Tigers could certainly use his production at third base, and his leadership in the clubhouse, as they build upon a playoff season in 2024. The Red Sox could use an extra bat in the lineup, but they would likely play Bregman at second base in order to keep Rafael Devers at third.
The 30-year-old Bregman has spent the entirety of his nine-year career with the Astros. Lifetime, he’s a .272 hitter with a .366 on-base percentage. He hit 26 homers and drove in 75 runs this past year while playing in 145 games. Bregman is a two-time World Series champion, having helped Houston win the title in 2017 and 2022.

BOSTON (WHDH) – Boston police are investigating an early morning shooting near Downtown Crossing that sent two men to the hospital.
Officers responding to a reported shooting in the area of 25 Kingston St. found a 36-year-old man suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound, according to Boston police.
Soon after, a 33-year-old man arrived at a nearby emergency wound with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.
While canvassing the area, police say they recovered a firearm.

Two Massachusetts men have been charged in a fatal shooting in Boston’s Mattapan neighborhood in early February, according to police.
Mattapan resident Mauricio Lawrence, 33, died en route to the hospital after being shot on Tennis Road the night of Feb. 4. Lawrence’s identity was confirmed by police on Feb. 14.
Boston police and U.S. Marshals arrested Shovan Darby, 29, of East Weymouth, Thursday evening for allegedly killing Lawrence. Darby was due to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.
Dorchester resident Roberto Taylor, 29, was also charged with murder, unlawfully possessing a firearm and ammunition, and carrying the loaded weapon. Taylor was being held in custody on other charges, according to the Boston Police Department. They did not share what the other charges were.

So far no arrests have been made in the shooting on Tennis Road late Tuesday night.

Lydia Shire, a local industry icon who currently runs the Liberty Hotel’s Italian restaurant Scampo, is adding another Italian hotel restaurant to her remit. As of this weekend, she’ll be permanently taking over the kitchen at Bar Enza inside the Charles Hotel, per a press release. Shire will be making menu adjustments over the next two weeks, according to a rep for the restaurant, and by the end of the month, Bar Enza’s menu will be fully hers.
This is the third head chef shakeup Bar Enza has endured since opening in 2021. The debut chef, NYC-based Del Posto alum Mark Ladner, left and returned to New York after 18 months at the helm. Tony Susi, the former chef and owner of now-closed North End favorite Sage, replaced Ladner. According to the rep, Susi left to pursue another opportunity; no word on what that is just yet.

Lyrik, the towering Back Bay development located at the intersection of Newbury Street and Massachusetts Avenue, just announced its most exciting restaurant tenant yet: Rosa Y Marigold. It’s a new Peruvian spot from JuanMa Calderon, Maria Rondeau, and their talented team, which is responsible for Celeste and La Royale (both essential Boston-area dining destinations). The new restaurant will serve lunch, dinner, and weekend brunch and is targeting a fall 2025 opening, according to a Lyrik rep.
A first-of-its-kind queer food festival is coming soon
Hot off the heels of a successful pop-up event last year, Big Queer Food Fest is returning to Boston in a much larger way. The team is pulling out all the stops for their first-ever week-long food festival, running from April 28 to May 4, that will celebrate LGBTQIA+ culinary talent on both a local and national level. Tickets for the main event, a grand tasting with over 20 participating restaurants at downtown Boston food hall High Street Place, are on sale now, and more events will be announced in the weeks leading up to the festival.
