WISCONSIN — Vice President Kamala Harris will travel to Milwaukee on Thursday, May 16, according to the White House.

The vice president will deliver remarks as part of her Economic Opportunity Tour.

This will be Harris’s fourth visit to the battleground state this year. Harris last visited La Crosse, Wis. in late April to highlight two new actions by the White House aimed at supporting the care economy.

The announcement comes one day before President Joe Biden is set to travel to Racine County and her visit comes two weeks after former President Donald Trump campaigned in Waukesha.

Flames from fatal Wisconsin home explosion may have set off ammunition, police say


  • A house explosion occurred in southern Wisconsin just outside Middleton around 11 p.m. on Tuesday.

  • One person died in the explosion, and the county medical examiner’s office is investigating the incident.

One person died when a house exploded in southern Wisconsin and authorities believe gunfire reported by neighbors happened when flames set off ammunition stored inside the home, police said.

Sheriff’s deputies and firefighters responded about 11 p.m. Tuesday after the house exploded just outside the city of Middleton, said Elise Schaffer, a spokesperson for the Dane County Sheriff’s Office.

One person was killed and the county medical examiner’s office is investigating, Schaffer said Wednesday.

Images posted by local media show the ruined home in flames after the explosion, which left a window and other debris scattered nearby.

The cause of the explosion remains under investigation, she said. Middleton is about 6 miles northwest of Madison.

Schaffer said she had no additional information to release Wednesday morning.

The sheriff’s office said in a news release that the fire “may have set off ammunition inside the home,” leading some nearby residents to report the sound of gunfire.

At least one person is dead following a house explosion in the Town of Springfield in Dane County. That is just north of Middleton.

It was just before 11 p.m. Tuesday, May 28 when emergency crews were dispatched to the home that was engulfed in flames.

There were early reports of shots being fired at the scene. But officials with the Dane County Sheriff’s Office say they believe it was just ammunition in the house being discharged due to the extreme heat.

Wisconsin daycare worker arrested after child found with cocaine in system


OAK CREEK, Wis. (WBAY) -On Tuesday, Oak Creek Police Department released information regarding a child abuse investigation in Oak Creek. A daycare employee was arrested after a child was found with cocaine in their system.

Police report on May 15, they were contacted by staff at the Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin about a possible child abuse victim at the facility. Police say the parent noticed several scratches and marks on the child and took them to the hospital to be evaluated.

Authorities report the following week, the hospital’s toxicology report found positive indication for cocaine metabolites. After conducting a K9 open-air sniff of facility vehicles and the infant room, police found a small plastic bag containing cocaine in an employee’s backpack.

The employee now faces felony criminal charges of child neglect, possession of a controlled substance near certain places, and a misdemeanor charge of possession of cocaine.
