Heading into the busy holiday travel season, a new report breaks down America’s airports from the best reliability to the best value to help travelers make their most efficient itinerary.
This year alone the TSA has recorded two record breaking travel days. The agency screen 2.9 million passengers on the Sunday after Thanksgiving, surpassing the record 2.8 million passengers screened on June 30.
Last holiday season airline travel was thrown into chaos after a winter storm swept across the nation causing thousands of flight cancelations and Southwest Airlines suffered a system meltdown.
A report by J.D Power based on customer satisfaction found that Newark, Toronto and Seattle ranked the worst, but Detroit, Minneapolis and Las Vegas came out on top with consumers.
New rankings by The Wall Street Journal sorts America’s best airports by different qualities to help travelers pick the best airport for their needs.

Most Reliable
Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta airport and Salt Lake City International Airport tied for the lowest cancellation rates at just one percent.
The Atlanta airport is the world’s busiest airport – according to Airports Council International the hub saw 93,699,630 passengers in 2022 – but maintains one of the lowest cancellation rates.
Jordan Biegler, assistant general manager of operations at Hartsfield-Jackson said the airport’s whopping 4,700 acres of space gives aircrafts plenty of room to maneuver and helps avoid traffic jams.

The Salt Lake City airport website said the travel center ranks 21 among the busiest airports in the country with more than 300 flights departing daily to 90 nonstop destinations.
Treber Andersen, the airport’s director of operations attributes the facility’s reliability to their deicing capabilities during inclement weather to keep planes moving.
Best for Weather
Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport, which placed second in America’s best airport survey, was found to be the best for inclement weather.
The Twin Cities airport sits on 3,400 acres in an area that averages over 51 inches of snow a year, served a whopping 31.2 million total passengers in 2022.
The airport released a video about its snow removal team in 2021 showing they have over 150 pieces of snow and ice removal equipment and a team of about 100 people from different departments that work to keep the runways clean.
Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport, which placed second in America’s best airport survey, was found to be the best for inclement weather
The Wall Street Journal found it had the highest percentage of on-time arrivals at 82.9 percent and on-time departures at 82.4 percent among large airports.
Minneapolis-Saint Paul also scored well for taxiing times in and out of the terminals and for the average length of departure delays.
Most Destinations
Dallas Fort Worth International Airport ranked the highest in offering nonstop flights with nonstop fares to 193 domestic and 67 international destinations.
Airports Council International ranked DFW the second-busiest airport in the world with a whopping 73.3 million passengers in 2022.
The massive airport has seven runways and was the first carbon neutral airport in North America, the largest in the world according to their website. It also ranked fourth in in America’s best airport survey.
Dallas Fort Worth International Airport ranked the highest in offering nonstop flights
Dulles International Airport in northern Virginia ranked highest for most destinations among midsize airports, offering nonstop flights to 74 domestic and 60 international destinations.
Most Affordable
While a trip to Las Vegas can be costly, your plane ticket there will not be the priciest purchase.
The Bureau of Transportation Statistics found the average cost of a of a domestic ticket through Harry Reid International Airport was $274 during their study period.
The Sin City airport ranked third in America’s best airport survey and its busiest-ever year in 2022 with 52.7 million passengers passing through.
According to Clark County Department of Aviation, the airport recorded 49.1 million passengers on domestic routes. International flying was up 234.9 percent to 2.5 million passengers and the airport’s general aviation flying, including scenic helicopter flights, was up 29.5 percent to nearly 1 million.

Indianapolis International Airport was found to have the highest score for value and convenience of any airport, large or midsize.
The airport ranked highest in categories such as the quality of facilities such as lounges and bathrooms to the availability of on-site parking, reported The Wall Street Journal.
Data from the Bureau of Transportation Statistics said the airport ranked 47 in the country’s busiest airports seeing 4.2 million passengers in 2022.
