The Bucks won’t play on Christmas for the first time since 2017 and Giannis reacted to the snub
What does Gary Trent Jr. add to the Bucks? Plus: Giannis done in Paris
Bucks reporter Jim Owczarski discusses the huge addition of Gary Trent Jr., plus takeaways from Giannis Antetokounmpo in the Olympics.
Giannis Antetokounmpo is now into his true offseason following Greece’s elimination in the Olympic Games, and on Friday he reacted to a report that the Milwaukee Bucks will not play on Christmas Day for the first time since the 2017-18 season.
Antetokounmpo simply posted on multiple social media platforms, “No Christmas game?!” with a laughing while crying emoji.
Milwaukee, which was bounced from the first-round of the playoffs for the second straight year, was reportedly passed over for the San Antonio Spurs (and Victor Wembanyama), Denver, Dallas, Minnesota, Phoenix, Golden State and the Los Angeles Lakers. New York remains a Christmas Day staple, too, appearing for the 56th time.
The Bucks lost 129-122 to the Knicks in a matinee at Madison Square Garden last Dec. 25, dropping the franchise’s all-time Christmas Day record to 5-5. The team did not appear on Christmas Day from 1978-2017.
Milwaukee last hosted a game on the holiday in 2021.
The NBA schedule has not officially been released, but a social media post by The Athletic with potential matchups on the day did not include the Bucks.
The entire schedule, including the re-branded in-season tournament, will likely be unveiled in the next week as Bucks season ticket holders were sent messages that individual game tickets can be purchased on Aug. 16.

Bucks News: Milwaukee with Surprisingly Well Odds to Win NBA Cup
The Milwaukee Bucks will kick off their quest for their first NBA Cup on Tuesday when they take on the Toronto Raptors. The Bucks will host the Raptors for their first NBA Cup game of the season.
Milwaukee missed out on the cup last year, and this year, the mission is to be the last team standing. Although the Bucks haven’t had the strongest start to the season, they still have highly favorable odds of hoisting the NBA Cup.
According to FanDuel, the Bucks have the 10th-best odds of winning the 2024 NAB Cup.
Milwaukee holds +1900 odds to win the trophy.
Despite their 2-8 start to the season, oddsmakers believe the Bucks are in the thick of things. They hold better odds to win the cup than the Sacramento Kings, Indiana Pacers, Miami Heat, Los Angeles Clippers, and Phoenix Suns, to name a few, despite all those teams having better records than them.
Nonetheless, the beauty of the NBA Cup is that anything can happen. Last season, the Lakers and Pacers went on a hot streak and competed for the trophy and $500,000 per player.
Talk about motivation.
The Bucks have not been the team that many expected them to be thus far. They cannot defend to save their lives; injuries have already hampered them, and there is chatter throughout that Giannis Antetokounmpo’s days in Milwaukee are numbered.
That’s all speculation at the moment, but if things continue to trend that way, it could eventually become a reality. The Bucks are far from the team they want to be at, and the numbers indicate that.
They are mediocre or in the bottom half in both offensive and defensive stats. Milwaukee ranks 21st in points in the paint per game, 20th in opponent points per game, 27th in assists per game, 13th in opponents’ total rebounds per game, and 21st in total rebounds per game.
The Bucks cannot defend and don’t dominate in the paint despite having the personnel to do so.
The good news is that there is still plenty of time to turn their season around, starting with this NBA Cup. The Bucks are in East Group B with the Raptors, Miami Heat, Pacers, and the Detroit Pistons.
Group play games will be played on Tuesdays and Fridays from Tuesday until Dec. 6.
If the Bucks are lucky enough, they will play in the quarterfinal games on Dec. 10 and 11. The semifinals and championship will be in Las Vegas on Dec. 14 and Dec. 17.

How 'Ginger Whimsy' brings joy, laughter and fun to events in Milwaukee
MILWAUKEE — Like many people, Alice Wilsonjoined the military at a young age. “I was in high school when I signed up with my parents’ permission and then shipped off that fall, right after I graduated,” Alice said.
Alice’s military experience gave her discipline and an appreciation of time.
“You know, you used to always hear in the Army commercials, ‘We do more before 9:00 AM than most people do all day.’ It’s true! No matter where my life has gone, that’s generally how I operate. I like to get up early. I like to see the sunrise whenever I can,” Alice said.
These days, Alice rises early to answer the call of performing as a living statue. Alice Wilson, a.k.a. Ginger Whimsy, creates all her characters—from the makeup to the costumes—and has performed extensively across the U.S. and abroad.

You may have seen her and wondered if she was real. Well, she is. Alice is serious about her characters. “Ginger Whimsy is a manifestation of another part of my personality—the quirky part that likes color, that likes beauty, and gets inspiration from the world at large,” Alice said.
Ginger Whimsy is also the way Alice continues to serve. With more than 15 different characters, she often donates her pay to the USO. “I’ve always wanted to give back, especially to people that I feel gave more than what I did. You know, people who actually fought in a war or were in a wartime situation. One of my characters is Rosie the Riveter. I do that a lot at veterans and military events,” Alice said.
The ability to stand still is one of the many things Alice learned in the military. She says it’s crucial to being a believable living statue.
