Game Thread #131: Milwaukee Brewers (75-55) vs. San Francisco Giants (66-66)

The Milwaukee Brewers are home, for a minute. After their six-game road trip last week, they’ve got three games against the San Francisco Giants at American Family Field before heading back on the road this weekend.

Tonight should be a fun one as we are treated to an excellent pitching matchup. For the Brewers, Tobias Myers will take the hill, looking to turn the ship around a little bit after he struggled a bit against the Cardinals last Wednesday. He only gave up two earned runs, but it took him 89 pitches to get through four innings. (How very Peralta-like.) Still, Myers is sporting a 2.87 ERA on the season and has been one of the brightest spots on the Brewers.

Myers will face off against the Giants’ Logan Webb, who has been one of the league’s best pitchers over the last three seasons. Webb finished second in Cy Young voting in 2023 and made the All-Star team this season; he is also the MLB leader in innings pitched this season after leading the majors last year. He is an extreme groundball pitcher who relies on a sinker/changeup combo; he almost never gives up home runs (a league-leading 0.4 HR/9 this season) and rarely runs into trouble with walks (2.1 per nine after leading the NL with 1.3 last season).

Jake Bauers will DH tonight and move into the cleanup spot in a lefty-heavy lineup that also features Sal Frelick, Brice Turang, and switch-hitter Blake Perkins.

First pitch is at 7:10 p.m. on Bally Sports Wisconsin and the Brewers Radio Network.

QUOTABLE

Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra: “This was kind of more of a throwback game. There were times where we were able to get to our game, but there were times where they got us in the mud, but we still a found a way to get the win and I think that’s a growth opportunity, growth deal for our team, to prove that we can do that.”
