DETROIT – In a surprising turn of events, Detroit Red Wings broadcaster Mickey Redmond conducted an impromptu interview with Local 4 while visiting the reopening of Michigan Central Station.

Redmond said on Thursday (June 6) that he was one of the construction workers to help turn the Detroit landmark that was once in danger of being torn down, come back to life.

“It was COVID, and everything was shut down,” said Redmond. “I needed something to do. I wanted to help a friend, JDS Pro, who was in need. I got hired by Leidal & Hart. We came into the Michigan Central Station and, removed graffiti, and washed brick. It was a great experience, and really, to watch this place come to life and then, of course, to watch tonight. It’s really just unbelievable.”

Redmond vividly described the transformation, pointing out the spots on the back walls where the engines used to leave trails of smoke on the building.

He said the limestone bricks were tough to clean, but the more he worked at it, the cleaner it became. He even took time to thank the station.

“We had great memories with you guys on Local 4,’ Redmond said. “You guys at channel 4. You guys did a great job tonight putting this all together.”

Redmond couldn’t leave the interview without giving a special shoutout to a sports legend as a bonus, saying:

“Hey Bernie, It’s good to see you again. When I’m not going ‘Bingo-Bango, there goes another one for the Red Wings’ I’m wondering, ‘What the heck’s going on at A Weekend At Bernie’s? Good to see you, man.”
