[00:00:00] Chris: I really feel lucky that we’re having a dialog right this moment, not below a dictatorship, as a result of two years in the past right this moment, we nearly misplaced our democracy in a Donald Trump impressed coup. It’s right this moment in Ohio, the information podcast. Dialogue from cleveland.com. On the aircraft seller. I’m Chris Quinn. I’m right here with Lisa Garvin.

Laura Johnston and Layla Tassi, who’s valiantly showing on this podcast right this moment, regardless of what she’ll hear in her voice, is a really dangerous chilly. Thanks, Lela. Yeah.

[00:00:32] Lisa: Oh, you’re welcome. .

[00:00:33] Leila: We received logged in. Wouldn’t miss it for the

[00:00:35] Chris: world. Chris . . We received some fairly wonderful information to speak about from Thursday, so. Discuss it.

Do we have now extra particulars on the sudden win by Jason Stevens is the brand new Ohio Home speaker. Layla Jeremy Pelzer went deep in how this man got here outta nowhere to some of the highly effective positions in Ohio.

[00:00:58] Leila: Yeah, this was a fairly fascinating [00:01:00] story. So if everybody is aware of Consultant Derek Maron was presumed to be the speaker elect after he gained a home g o p caucus vote final November.

However Jason Stevens was capable of take it from him by cobbling collectively a victory. With a 3rd of his G O P colleagues and all the Home Democrats and De Democrats stated that they backed Stevens as a result of they had been anxious about benefit’s extra conservative agenda on points. , these embrace tax cuts and labor points and elevating the edge to go state constitutional amendments.

However the kind of fracturing we noticed amongst Republicans is fairly uncommon. Usually when the this vote will get to the home ground. They vote unanimously for the candidate who gained the caucus vote. However for Republicans, this was about energy and, and a few of us feeling slighted by maron in accordance with sources who talked to Jeremy Pelzer after the caucus vote.

Maron didn’t attempt to attain out to Steven’s supporters to win [00:02:00] their loyalty. He didn’t. Supply them any perks in alternate for his or her help, like chairmanships or choice to his management crew. And you realize, so behind the scenes, Stevens took benefit of that state of affairs and began calling the Democrats to place collectively his, uh, you realize, his votes and.

how democratic leaders waited. That is the sneakiest half. I assumed waited till only a couple hours earlier than the vote to carry a gathering to comply with vote for Stevens, as a result of they didn’t need maron to have time to intervene with their plan . So Democrats, Democrats say that they only needed somebody who could be extra affordable on points that matter to them.

They, they needed somebody who may assist guarantee the subsequent spherical. Legislative map making has a good consequence. And, they usually needed somebody who wouldn’t sideline the Democrats by protecting them out of committees and positions of affect. However, you realize, yeah. This was, uh, everybody ought to learn this. This was a really fascinating look [00:03:00] into Ohio

[00:03:00] Chris: politics.

Effectively, and Maron did get in contact with Jeremy later within the day, uh, to say that he did attempt to attain, However he additionally made, I, I nonetheless can’t consider he did this. He made the cost that Stevens took benefit of Maron being at his father’s deathbed to rally this help and, and was making a fairly ugly accusation.

And it’s simply an odd, it, it got here throughout as bitter grapes, however, however enjoying in your useless father simply appears. It appears dangerous. He did disagree although. He stated, I did attempt to attain out. I did attempt to discuss to the Democrats. It didn’t supply any, I believe, concrete proof for it, however I, I believe a part of what’s taking place right here, I, I used to be speaking to anyone that’s fairly excessive up yesterday who stated that the phrase is that they campaigned final 12 months from folks all throughout the state, Republicans and Democrats is individuals are sick of the ranker that has actually outlined the State Home the previous couple of years.

Yeah. And Marin. Would’ve been that Maron was hardline, you realize, a [00:04:00] actually Trumpy type form of man. So, so you’d’ve had that ranker proceed. Stevens looks like a man who simply needs to get stuff finished. Uh, you realize when, when folks take a look at him as one of many nicest legislators in Columbus, perhaps you may drop that temperature slightly bit and never have the ridiculous stuff we noticed.

I imply, bear in mind up to now couple of years we had a legislator. , te uh, testifying concerning the vaccine, you realize, inflicting you to be magnetized. I imply, we’ve had ridiculous nonsense exhibiting up within the state home that no one needs, and this, this can be a sign. Issues have modified. I’m not stunned some Republicans didn’t wish to go along with Marin due to that onerous line.

[00:04:47] Leila: Yeah. And, and you realize, Stevens is, such as you stated, considered sincere and type and affordable throughout each events, however, however he’s actually conservative too. I imply, wasn’t he [00:05:00] tied with Maron as one of many, you realize, what was he quantity 48 when it comes to most conservative, uh, of Republicans, however he’s. , Steven’s co-sponsor, co-sponsored, um, you realize, the, the unsuccessful invoice to ban transgender ladies from enjoying highschool or faculty sports activities, and he voted for an elections invoice that, you realize, would require Ohio voters to indicate the, the photograph ID at polling locations.

I imply, these are issues that Democrats. hated. Um, however yeah, however perhaps his, his mood bent is sufficient to, uh, hold them stitched collectively. I don’t know.

[00:05:35] Chris: I, properly, on the voter id, I imply the, the, the Democrats are out of contact with voters cuz the voters are cl Each ballot exhibits folks largely need that. I what I think.

Stevens will try this. Maron gained’t, isn’t be absolutist and, properly, he can’t be as a result of the Democrats, he wanted the Democrat help. I don’t assume maron, I believe Maron would’ve pushed for an absolute abortion ban. No exceptions No how, no means. Yeah. [00:06:00] Which all that may do is generate an in an modification instantly to, to vary it.

Cuz that’s not the place Ohio stands. Is Steven’s extra of a pragmatist the place he’ll say, look, yeah, I’d like to ban abortion altogether, however that’s by no means gonna. We we’re by no means gonna win that if we go that regulation, it’s gonna get tossed. So, you realize, how far can we push the place voters could discover it tolerable or one thing?

Yeah. You, you, we haven’t had that. We’d like affordable leaders within the State Home to assume with some pragmatism. I believe Stevens gives a significantly better probability at that than Marin. Whether or not or not it occurs, I don’t.

[00:06:40] Leila: Yeah, it’s good to have a recent begin. Let’s see

[00:06:42] Chris: what he does. Yeah, I, I’m extra optimistic than I used to be when it was married.

that’s for certain. . It’s right this moment in Ohio. Is Frank LA’s anti-democracy transfer to make it tougher for voters to vary the state structure? Wanting useless now that the shock candidate has gained the [00:07:00] Ohio Home speaker seat, Lisa. I believe this factor was doomed as a result of so many teams had been. That Frank LaRose, greedily overreached with what he was proposing and now has been bitten laborious, but it surely, is it trying prefer it’s going nowhere Formally it,

[00:07:16] Lisa: it actually does as a result of Jason Stevens, the Newhouse speaker, voted.

In opposition to home joint decision six final month within the lame duck session. In order that’s signal. Um, and it seems that the Republicans had been able to go this shortly in time for put putting it on the February 1st, or making the February 1st poll deadline for a Could election. Um, Derek Marin set an aggress.

Legislative calendar earlier than he was booted outta the speaker seat. So it regarded like they had been making an attempt to do this. And that was on the prime of their record. Stevens for himself, he’s non-committal on the 60% threshold. He says he must cobble collectively a legislative calendar as quickly as potential, and the finances is on the prime of his record proper now.[00:08:00]

Um, you realize, and naturally the Republicans in Ohio are downplaying that the influence that the 60% rule would’ve had on, you realize, votes on. Constitutionality of abortion. However for those who take a look at measures in different states, they handed, you realize, in a spread of 52 to 59% of the votes, and none of them reached that 60% threshold.

[00:08:21] Chris: Yeah, th this was LaRose enjoying to a, a, a fringe base, and it was form of a craven transfer. There have been so many teams from, from all sides of the political spectrum that had been popping out in opposition to it, although I’m unsure that even Maron would’ve gotten sufficient votes to place this on the poll. I believe there are sufficient Republicans, particularly those that went with Stevens, that had been anxious about being tagged with, that if this dies, I’m unsure it ever goes away.

Anyone who runs in opposition to LaRose will tag him with this. That is gonna stick with him. He tried to devalue your vote. , he’s alleged to be working for the Senate. That’s gonna be a [00:09:00] aggressive race. If I had been working in opposition to him, I’d be certain that to tag him with this. This might find yourself being a, a savaging of his political profession at at the very least it appears they are going to.

Below Steven’s Rush to get this finished in time for Could. So, so for the poll measures that we would see within the close to future marijuana and different issues, this, the, the 60% won’t apply. In the event that they find yourself placing it on the poll, they might put it on the poll. No sooner than November, I suppose.

[00:09:30] Lisa: Effectively, and I, and I urge folks to learn Andrew Tobias’s story as a result of it was form of two tales in a single, as a result of he talked about, you realize, the actions by abortion rights teams to get this on the poll and the way they’re engaged on language.

And there are two completely different coalitions, you realize, so yeah, it’s an, it’s nearly two tales in a single there. So I don’t know if we wish to discuss all of that, however. .

[00:09:51] Chris: Effectively, the, the hazard, the, the, the, the, the professional, properly, the, the people who find themselves in search of to legalize abortion have is that if they [00:10:00] overreach. In the event that they, in the event that they don’t put within the form of limits that Ohioans clearly need, whether or not it’s first trimester or no matter, then the folks preventing it should in all probability have the ability to persuade voters to oppose it.

And also you, you at all times, On either side. There’s at all times this overreach. , absolutely the ban on abortion is a ridiculous overreach by the one aspect. And if these teams do an excessive amount of, they’re gonna lose. And, and it’ll be shocking if they don’t seem to be pragmatic. Proper. Effectively, they usually

want

[00:10:30] Lisa: to come back collectively. There are two completely different teams.

There’s the Ohio Physicians for Reproductive Rights. They fashioned a c. Week known as Defend, Ohio Selection, they usually’re seeking to put it on the November poll they usually’re already engaged on the, the, uh, poll language. After which there’s one other group, Ohioans for Reproductive Freedom, which incorporates the A C L U, deliberate Parenthood, Ohio Ladies’s Alliance and others.

And so they fashioned this week as properly, however they don’t seem to be working collectively they usually in all probability must do. [00:11:00]

[00:11:00] Chris: If, if, and right here’s the factor, if Stevens is sensible, if he needs to limit abortion from what it was below Roe, they need to give you one thing that is likely to be acceptable to the voters, as a result of something in need of that, the voters are gonna put it into the Structure the place it’s everlasting, and that that’s the, the push.

Are they going to be smart sufficient to give you one thing that negates the necessity for the constitutional modification? The heartbeat invoice doesn’t reduce it. If the heartbeat invoice stays, there’ll be a constitutional modification on the poll. It’s simply, it’s fascinating whether or not they are going to have frequent sense and give you a sane strategy.

It’s right this moment in Ohio. How is a Summit County Republican making an attempt to feather his nest by taking a shot at fellow Republicans who voted to make Stevens the brand new speaker? Laura, that is a type of issues that boggles my thoughts. Should you don’t agree with me, I’m gonna punish you. .

[00:11:56] Laura: Uh, yeah. I believe that’s what precisely what he’s doing, and I really feel like [00:12:00] each story we discuss, the stakes hold getting larger.

This drama retains getting extra dramatic within the State Home. So Brian Williams needs to punish these Republicans who left the fold and deserted Derek Barron. So Williams is the Summit County Republican Get together Chairman. He’s certainly one of three guys vying for the management of the celebration and what I’m certain right this moment can be an enchanting assembly.

Andrew Tobias is protecting that this morning. I can solely think about what they’re gonna lob at one another. However, uh, William’s supporters are circula. Draft that may make Stevens and the 21 different Republican Home, Ohio Home members ineligible to obtain finish state celebration endorsement or any celebration assets for at the very least the subsequent 4 years.

So that you didn’t associate with the caucus, we’re not gonna provide you with any help.

[00:12:45] Chris: It is a fairly despicable transfer as a result of individuals are not elected to tow the celebration line, proper? They’re elected to vote their conscience based mostly on

[00:12:53] Laura: and symbolize their, their

[00:12:56] Chris: constituents properly. They inform their constituents, these are my rules, they usually’re alleged to [00:13:00] go and vote on their rules.

These legislators determined Marin didn’t match the place the state wanted to go, they usually voted for an additional Republican. They didn’t vote for a Democrat. They voted for an additional Republican, however as a result of they didn’t to. Get together line. Mm-hmm. , so, so principally, for those who don’t tow the celebration line, you’re not match to be within the celebration.

That’s not the way in which it’s alleged to work. I hope this man doesn’t win it. It’d be dangerous for the Republican celebration to have yet one more absolutist my means or the freeway. You do the whole lot the celebration says, otherwise you’re finished in cost. I

[00:13:31] Laura: fully agree, and the middle decision particularly takes challenge with the truth that home minority chief Allison Russo, she’s an higher Arlington Democrat, held the Bible that Steven’s was once sworn into workplace.

So God forbid you do something bipartisan that this man, Brian Williams, Simply needs to punish you for getting together with the opposite aspect, which you simply talked about it. Persons are bored with the ranker. They need folks to get alongside and he needs to punish you for having something to do with a [00:14:00] Democrat. Yeah.

And he’s truly feuding with a member of a Republican from Summit County Republican. Consultant Bob Younger of Inexperienced, and it’s actually uncommon for a county celebration chief to interrupt publicly with an elected official inside their county. However apparently, I gotta learn you this quote. He says, it’s clear the caucus made their selection.

And the 22 personally bold people went and made their very own deal for any form of reward they thought they might get, and the celebration’s gonna push. Again.

[00:14:26] Chris: Yeah. Effectively, we all know who the personally bold individual is right here. He’s dangerous information. The

[00:14:31] Laura: different two guys in opposition to him are Hamilton County Chairman Alex, making an attempt to, Phil and Jimmy Stewart, former state lawmaker from southeast Ohio, who runs the Ohio Gasoline Affiliation, so properly.

We’ll see. I’m certain we’ll discuss it on Monday.

[00:14:44] Chris: Yeah. Vote for anyone however Williams. It’s right this moment in Ohio. Lower than per week into authorized sports activities betting in Ohio. We have now three extra potential fines coming for sports activities betting corporations. With the information coming a day after Governor Mike DeWine [00:15:00] issued a stern warning to them, Layla, what are the accusations right here?

So

[00:15:05] Leila: the Ohio On line casino Management Fee stated it’s taking administrative motion in opposition to BET MG m Sports activities e book, Caesar Sports activities e book, and drafting sports activities e book. All three of those are accused of breaking two guidelines, not having a message. About downside playing and promoting free or threat free bets. And so they every face $150,000 fines for this.

They will, they’ll request a listening to on the fines, however, uh, you realize, that’s, that’s a fairly, fairly steep, uh, penalty. So the principles are, Sports activities betting ads are alleged to have a transparent message designed to forestall downside playing and, and will con, ought to have a cellphone quantity that folks can name to get assets to assist them with that downside.

And corporations are additionally not allowed to name their promotions free or threat free bets when a ga when gamblers are required to, to threat their very own [00:16:00] cash to get the promotion. The fee stated these three corporations broke that rule after which, and, and draftking. They had been already in sizzling water. That they had already been placed on discover and are accused of mailing roughly 2,500 advertisements to folks below 21 who weren’t sufficiently old to gamble and, they usually may face a $350,000 positive for that violation.

Bar stool Sports activities e book was issued a, a discover of violation earlier in December due to an occasion that they held on the College of Toledo’s campus. They had been promoting, you realize, promoting close to a university campus is, is in opposition to the principles they usually may face a $250,000 positive. So, undoubtedly appears the On line casino Management Fee is popping out sturdy on these violations, and they need to,

[00:16:41] Chris: I, I used to be truly stunned by this as a result of I’ve talked about that we’re, we have now a accomplice and, and we’re getting some promoting cash based mostly on, on sports activities playing and, and.

And referrals and a few of these corporations are, are on our website. They’re hyperlinks to them on our website, and I do know what went into [00:17:00] ensuring that not one of the wording violated the principles and that every one of them had the disclaimer. I imply, it was, it was a number of forwards and backwards to do this. Simply to, to make it possible for inside the guidelines and but, and, and so I do know on our website that, you realize, you don’t have risk-free bedding or free bedding.

The, the, the, as that stuff went by means of the filters, it actually wasn’t there. So I’m stunned they’re doing it as a result of they’re very cognizant of it. A part of this that strikes me is as silly is. You possibly can’t say free betting, you may’t say threat free betting, so you may give you 14 different euphemisms like no sweat bedding.

Why, why didn’t the state, if it needs to cease, that simply prohibit the businesses from giving folks the cash again on a mattress? What? , they, they, they might have attacked the coverage as an alternative of the wording as a result of they haven’t advised these corporations. You possibly can’t give folks. Credit score to guess with in order that they actually don’t have a threat, despite the fact that you may’t say that.

Uh, [00:18:00] however so why not simply try this? Simply say that’s a, in Ohio, you’re not gonna have the ability to give folks credit score to work with, to, to get them into your fold. It, it looks like we, the coverage’s slightly bit cockeyed to me.

[00:18:13] Leila: What I don’t get is that, I’m certain these corporations make a lot cash. Do they really want to interrupt the principles to reach this market?

I don’t

[00:18:21] Chris: assume so. Effectively, it’s aggressive although, there, I imply, the, the issue is, yeah, there’s some huge cash, some huge cash from, from what I perceive, Ohio instantly grew to become primary within the nation for sports activities betting. It overtook New York on day one s, however, however there’s so much. Firms making an attempt to get that money, it’s as a result of it’s so profitable.

And so I do assume they, they in all probability push it and, and try to get an edge and look, that’s why they’re working with us, proper? That offers you an edge. Should you work with the web site that has essentially the most loyal sp. Sports activities followers within the state, and we have now an infinite and rabid sports activities viewers, [00:19:00] and these guys wish to be certain that they’re getting their message earlier than them, and it’s frankly, serving to maintain the journalism we do.

And so I’m, I’m glad it’s there. Um, but it surely’s, it’s simply odd. This has come up once more, as a result of I do know they’re cognizant of it and making an attempt to not do it. They’re not doing it on our website anyway, huh? Yeah, proper. It’s right this moment in Ohio. Is that this an indication of the Mike DeWine? We’ll see in these subsequent 4 years. What did E veto Thursday, Lisa, and why?

Yeah,

[00:19:31] Lisa: that is truly nice information and he’s truly, you realize, exhibiting that he has some power and he’s gonna battle that tremendous majority. He vetoed laws yesterday that may’ve prevented cities in Ohio from enacting tobacco taxes, charges, or different restrictions like age limits. Um, they handed that through the lame duck and the waning days of the session, they usually did it proper after the Metropolis of Columbus banned the sale of flavored and menthol tobacco merchandise that may’ve began [00:20:00] in 2024 and Ohio.

And, and after he vetoed the laws, uh, governor DeWine stated Ohio is within the midst of a vaping epidemic. Children are beginning youthful and youthful. They’re being drawn by these sweet flavored and menthol flavored, uh, you realize, vape merchandise. And, you realize, pre, these are known as. Tobacco preemption legal guidelines. So these are, you realize, methods to maintain cities from enacting their very own, you realize, laws.

Um, his transfer was praised by the American Most cancers Society. Different, he, public well being officers additionally home Democrats. Uh, the, uh, the Democrat chief, Allison Russo, stated This might’ve been dangerous for Ohioans. Violates residence rule and would’ve raised Medicaid spending. Attention-grabbing. I didn’t know. Virtually half of states within the US 24 states do have tobacco preemption legal guidelines.

Most of them are about age limits and you realize who to promote to, but it surely’s clearly sub supported by the tobacco trade. So yeah, it is a, it’s very encouraging in [00:21:00] my. Effectively,

[00:21:01] Chris: and he did say, look, if the legislature needs to do one thing, they oughta ban that for teenagers. Mm-hmm. , we, we have now so many issues that we’re placing in entrance of youngsters which might be harmful.

, Lisa, while you and I had been younger, that you just received sweet, cigarettes mm-hmm. to get you hooked on the concept of smoking. There have been little white sugar sticks with purple ends and. I, the story broke final week that in states which have legalized marijuana, children are by accident getting the gummy bears. All of the, why are we making sweet trying marijuana?

Why are we having issues which might be ki. Sweet flavored to that may attraction to children. And I assumed DeWine was proper. Why doesn’t the legislature simply outright ban that form of factor. So he stopped tempting children to start out utilizing it. And

[00:21:48] Lisa: he’s been, you realize, and he’s, that’s one of many issues about DeWine. He’s actually involved in the way forward for Ohio’s kids, whether or not it’s schooling, psychological well being, substance abuse.

So that is form of in keeping with his [00:22:00] philosophy. I simply hope to see extra, you realize, extra spine as. Take into account different laws.

[00:22:08] Chris: I want we’d do one thing to make the marijuana gummies seem like vomit or one thing so the youngsters would cease being tempted to have it. Cuz if a child sees one thing that appears like a gummy bear, they’re going to wolf it down.

It’s right this moment in Ohio. Each Ohio Senate race appears to be dearer than all of the earlier ones, however final 12 months’s was that and far, way more. How a lot was it, Laura, and what astounding reality about it than Andrew Tobias report

[00:22:35] Laura: that it prices greater than the final earlier three elections mixed?

[00:22:41] Chris: I, I assumed it was just below the final three mixed, nearly

[00:22:45] Laura: as a lot.

Sorry. Very shut, 197.6 million spent on the US Senate race final 12 months. That features 104 million from exterior teams. And examine that to the 211 million on the [00:23:00] previous three mixed. So not fairly up there, however very shut. Uh, 37.7 million in 2018. That’s when she brown run gained reelection over Jim Rei. There was 91 million within the 2016 and in.

Manner again in 20 12, 82 0.3. That was when she brown defeated Republican Josh Mandel. So this could possibly be a harbinger of issues to come back, as a result of give it some thought, she Brown’s gonna should run for reelection. Democrats are gonna maintain onto this slim majority, and he’s the one statewide elected Democrat in Ohio.

So, , I’m certain we’re gonna hold seeing an enormous amount of cash spent on these races and an enormous quantity of outdoor cash coming in as a result of despite the fact that Tim Ryan and his committee raised all kinds of cash, 61 million, uh, almost 94, almost two thirds of what. Was raised by all of the marketing campaign and their associates.

He, he received out spent by all the skin teams that Vance received.

[00:23:57] Chris: I, I do surprise with she [00:24:00] whether or not it gained’t be that fevered as a result of he’s the incumbent and it gained’t be an open seat. He’s fairly formidable and perhaps the Republicans are certain this time they’ll have the ability to knock him off. They’ve been certain of that earlier than they usually’ve by no means been capable of do it, however I’m wondering if the explanation that this was a lot greater than the earlier ones is as a result of it was open.

[00:24:21] Laura: Perhaps, I imply that makes a number of sense, proper? Portman’s gone. We have now this open seat. That’s why you noticed all these Republicans working within the first place. However regardless, that’s a complete lot of cash. Yeah. You had, you realize, Peter Thiel giving 15 million on his personal.

[00:24:35] Chris: Yeah, I do know it’s, uh, it no matter is, we all know that the subsequent one can be costly, whether or not it’s this costly, Sharon Brown’s gonna should get a number of

[00:24:43] Laura: cash, don’t you?

Simply assume what else they could possibly be spending their cash on. . We discuss on a regular basis about ARPA cash and what it could possibly be used for transformational functions. And what if these billionaires had been giving their cash to constructing a brand new jail in Cuyahoga County? We’d have one thing to indicate for it aside from actually terrible recollections [00:25:00] of dangerous advertisements on television.

[00:25:02] Chris: Yeah, good level. It’s right this moment in Ohio is a center college allowed to strip search college students? What does an Ohio mother allege in her federal lawsuit in opposition to the East Lake colleges? Leila.

[00:25:15] Leila: Effectively, on the coronary heart of this case is an eighth grade lady, and this occurred on September seventh after the lady’s buddy had requested her to place a vape pen in her locker.

Principal, Colleen bla Blak later in that day, pulled the lady out of sophistication and questioned her about this pen and the lady advised the principal what occurred and stated she didn’t know if the pen was nonetheless in her locker. So the principal searched the ladies two lockers and didn’t discover something. So she took the lady to the nurse’s workplace the place she advised a nurse’s assist to strip search this lady.

And the nurse’s assist known as the college nurse Megan Coolman, who was not on the college on the time, and Coolman advised her to go forward and search the scholar. So in accordance with the lawsuit, the [00:26:00] nurse’s assist. ordered this lady to take off all her garments, together with her bra, and go away her underwear on, and the lady complied.

She was, she wasn’t allowed to depart or refuse the search, they usually didn’t discover something. So the, this nurse’s aide left the lady there, principally nearly bare and, and returned again into the room to shine a UV mild in her eyes, I’m certain to see. , she was below the affect of one thing and this lady was finally suspended from college.

So the nurse later stated, that is the college nurse that, that she wouldn’t have searched this, she wouldn’t have strip searched this lady. If she had been there on the scene. She would’ve opted for a much less invasive means of looking out the lady. However too late. I imply, east Lake Faculty District is now getting sued for this.

[00:26:47] Chris: I can’t think about that it’s authorized . I simply, I don’t perceive. I can’t think about both. The college doesn’t have the authority to do this, does it?

[00:26:56] Leila: I, I, I’d hope not that that is appalling to [00:27:00] me. I, for, for one thing like a vape pen. Come

[00:27:03] Chris: on. Yeah, I, come on, I, I, that is alarming. If I lived in that district, I’d be outraged and demanding solutions.

Plus, it’s a child, it’s a younger child. What’s the message you despatched to your scholar physique too? I imply, that’s not the nation that they reside in. Um, this, it is a. Stunning case. It’ll be fascinating to, what does the college say aside from that? Oh, we shouldn’t have finished it. I imply, have they ever apologized? Have they ever stated, this doesn’t match our coverage.

We screwed up right here. Have they ever

[00:27:30] Leila: it, I don’t know. It doesn’t look like that’s, uh, they’re in all probability protecting quiet as a result of it’s a matter of litigation at this level, however, however my goodness, why wouldn’t you name the mother and father first? and say, we’re having an issue together with your daughter. There’s been this challenge with this vape pen.

, it’s essential to come to the college and assist us. Yeah. Kind this out or one thing. Yeah. Yeah. , that is, I, are you able to think about in case your youngster got here residence and stated that this occurred to them in school, and this was, I’d lose my thoughts on

[00:27:57] Chris: them . I’d not wish to be the principal if it occurred to [00:28:00] you. and I, this principal has some explaining to do an outrageous story, and that’s why we’re speaking about it.

It’s right this moment in Ohio. All proper, so my grass greened up the weeds I didn’t pull grew and I see the tops of daffodil BU bulbs, despite the fact that now it’s snow on the bottom. Are the crops in northeast Ohio at risk now that they’ve began rising within the latest heat climate with bitter chilly? Certain to come back. Lisa, you’re a gardener.

What’s the story right here? Yeah,

[00:28:28] Lisa: there’s actually no trigger for fear right here. Um, you realize, January warmups normally. Trick crops into blooming too early. Um, uh, we talked with Ethan Johnson, who’s with the Holden Forest and Gardens, and he says crops, particularly native timber, know to not come out of dormancy too quickly, and crops are literally at their hardiest proper now.

He says that truly. Extra injury happens when the freeze occurs as buds are opening within the late winter and early spring, and excessive temperature adjustments then will be problematic, particularly [00:29:00] for crops like peach timber and so forth. Some are bulbs are sprouting. None of mine are sprouting. My pennies form of peaked up by means of the mulch, however I simply coated ‘em again over once more, and in the event that they stated even when they’re sprouting, they need to be positive.

You may need slightly little bit of brown on the ideas, however the flowers can be okay in your bulb.

[00:29:17] Chris: It did throw me after I walked out and the grass was doing what it usually does within the spring. It was like, wait, wait. Am I gonna have to tug out a mower? I imply, it was, uh, I suppose we had sufficient of day sufficient days in a row the place it was heat, the place it form of fooled the whole lot however good that it gained’t be everlasting.

It’s right this moment in Ohio. How a lot say will the general public have on a plan to switch concrete boundaries in public sq. with extra engaging Ballards? And why do we’d like these obstacles in public sq. within the first place? Laura? Homeland

[00:29:49] Laura: Safety. Chris, we are able to’t. You possibly can’t simply construct one thing good nowadays and hope it’s gonna keep protected so the general public will get loads of.

In what these Ballards seem like. [00:30:00] The, the primary stage was an early stage conceptual design on the assembly of the Downtown Flats Design Assessment Committee. The nonprofit Land Studio is the one shepherding this by means of the planning fee’s going to listen to this right this moment, and within the coming weeks, there’ll be further refinement of design and engineering and the choice of a Ballard producer.

By the way in which, I’m simply gonna inform you proper now, they’re going for contemporary, shiny trying ballards. They don’t. Historic trying Ballards. Um, I, I can’t even take into consideration how a lot work and time and power has been going into this mission. It’s gonna price about 3.5 million to get it finished. I believe everybody would agree they’re gonna look higher than these concrete Jersey boundaries, which poor New Jersey to have that named after you.

Not preferrred.

[00:30:43] Chris: So once they say they gained’t be historic Ballards we’re speaking, they gained’t be the Ballards that had been round When Moses Cleveland was first sounding town , what’s a historic Ballard look

[00:30:53] Laura: like? I’m guessing that it might be like, you realize, extra ornate and like, Form of like an ionic column or one thing [00:31:00] like that, however they’re going for these shiny cylinders, which is what it regarded like in my head.

Anyway. I like that you just had the possibility to, I like to make use of that phrase, shiny. Yeah,

[00:31:07] Chris: I do. I do know it was when Laura was a reporter about each different story she wrote had the phrase shiny. I wrote about

[00:31:12] Laura: the medical mart so much. Okay. I imply, to be honest,

[00:31:16] Chris: Okay. That’s humorous. It’s right this moment in Ohio. That’s it. We’ve gone lengthy.
