Janie Lynne Smart, 55, passed away on August 27, 2024, at the Cleveland Clinic Fairview Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio.
She was born on April 8, 1969, in Livonia, Michigan, the daughter of Kathleen (Thomas) Smart.
Janie graduated from John Glenn High School in 1987. She attended and received degrees from Michigan State University and Wayne State University.
For the past four years she has worked as an Enrollment Specialist for Oakmont Education Orchard Park Academy in Cleveland, Ohio.
Janie enjoyed helping others, working out, listening to ABBA and true crime podcasts. Her true source of joy and happiness came from spending time with her daughters, she especially loved having coffee with her girls and just chatting about everyday life.
She is survived by her mother, Kathleen Smart; her daughters, Amy and Bridget Zell; her siblings, Amy (Smart) Posch and Timothy Smart; her former husband and dear friend, Jason Zell and many dear friends.
A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.

3 teens shot in Cleveland’s Clark-Fulton neighborhood
CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) – Several teens were shot on Cleveland’s West Side on Tuesday afternoon.
The shooting happened around 4:05 pm in the 310O block of West 46th.
When officers arrived on scene, they found three teens shot: two 15-year-old males and a 16-year-old male.
They were all taken to MetroHealth Hospital in unknown conditions.
