Cleveland Clinic opens its first hospital in Lake County
MENTOR, Ohio — The City of Mentor has its first hospital, which also means Lake County residents now have a Cleveland Clinic hospital within its county lines.
The hospital opened July 11 for patient care and is located at 8300 Norton Pkwy. near I-90 and Ohio State Route 615.
This hospital is Cleveland Clinic’s 23rd and the first new hospital in northeast Ohio since 2016.
Mentor Hospital will help patients with shorter hospital stays with follow-up care at home based on their needs. For those patients with in need of more specialized care, they will be transferred to the appropiate Cleveland Clinic location including main campus, Hillcrest Hospital or Euclid Hospital.
“We are pleased to open Mentor Hospital and expand our services for residents of Lake and Geauga counties,” said Dr. Tom Mihaljevic, Cleveland Clinic CEO and president, and holder of the Morton L. Mandel CEO Chair. “Mentor Hospital is a new hospital concept, based on the needs of the community, and supports our goal of providing every patient the best care and experience possible.”
There are 34 inpatient rooms, 23 outpatients rooms, 19 emergency department beds, 12 pre-/post-anesthesia care beds and four operating rooms.
“We evaluated the needs of the community to determine how to best serve patients at Mentor Hospital,” said Dr. Donald A. Malone Jr., president of Cleveland Clinic Ohio Hospitals and Family Health Centers. “Mentor Hospital will offer a broad scope of services and have the support of the entire Cleveland Clinic health system.”
The hospital’s outpatient services include: bariatric surgery, cardiology, digestive disease, general and colorectal surgery, vascular surgery, urology, pulmonary medicine, orthopaedics and sports medicine
Inpatient services include general surgery, orthopaedics and primary care. The hospital also offers lab and imaging services.
The new hospital now fills a need as Mentor’s first 24-hour emergency department.
“Mentor Hospital is a ‘hospital of the future’ that will serve patients’ needs today and for generations to come,” said Dr. Richard Parker, president of Hillcrest and Mentor hospitals. “The hospital’s modular design is versatile, allowing us the opportunity to expand in the future, if needed, to meet changing community needs.”
Cleveland Clinic Hillcrest Hospital will manage the new building.
The new building comes equipped for high energy performance including solar energy production, storm water retention and management, electric vehicle charging capabilities and covered bike parking.
There are eight other Cleveland Clinic facilities in Lake and Geauga counties including offices in Chardon, Concord, Madison, the Mentor Wayside Building, and at the Willoughby Hills Family Health Center.
