HARTFORD, CT (WFSB) – Efforts to address high energy bills in Connecticut continue to intensify.

State Republican lawmakers were set to unveil at the state capitol Wednesday new details about their plan to combat rising electricity prices.

The proposal came after alarming reports about the state’s energy rates and the financial strain on residents.

Wednesday, state GOP lawmakers said they would reveal the specifics of their 6-point plan aimed at reducing energy costs for Connecticut households.

It followed a recent push by lawmakers to address what they described as an ongoing crisis of high electricity prices that impacted families across the state.

A recent study by Lending Tree highlighted the severity of the issue.

It found that Connecticut residents have some of the highest energy bills in the country, with 36 percent of residents unable to pay a bill, the second-highest percentage in the nation.

Additionally, the study ranked Connecticut as having the third-highest electricity rate at 29.9 cents per kilowatt-hour, only trailing California and Hawaii.

Last week, Connecticut Democrats also introduced their energy plan, the “Ratepayers First Act,” which seeks to lower energy costs.

However, it provided limited details on how the plan would function in practice.

The meeting where the GOP sought to present more details on its plan was set to begin at 10:30 a.m.

Lawmakers, industry experts, and residents alike were expected to watch closely to see what steps were proposed to ease the financial burden of high energy bills for Connecticut families.
