Big Boy locomotive chugging through North Texas this week

DALLAS – The world’s largest operating steam locomotive is coming through North Texas this week.

Union Pacific’s Big Boy No. 4014 will chug into Dallas on Wednesday, Sept. 18.

This stop will not include events for the public.

The train will make a stop at a private Union Pacific Event on Wednesday.

It will then leave Dallas at 9 a.m. and make its way to Hearne.

The train will be back in North Texas next month.

It will be in Fort Worth from October 10 to October 13. The train will be at the Fort Worth T&P Station on W. Lancaster Avenue.

Admission to see the Big Boy is free and open to the public from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 10 and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 11.

The locomotive will leave Fort Worth on Sunday, Oct. 13 at 8 a.m.

The stops are a part of the Big Boy Heartland of America Tour, which takes the train through 10 states.

25 “Big Boys” were built during World War II, but only eight survived. No. 4014 is the only one in operation.

Gov. DeSantis to join Texas governor for Texas Stock Exchange event in Miami

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis will be joining Texas Gov. Greg Abbot at the Perez Art Museum in Miami on Tuesday for an event promoting economic growth.

The event is being organized by the Texas Stock Exchange, and several business and policy leaders will be in attendance.

SAN MARCOS – No. 18 Texas A&M travels to San Marcos to face Texas State on Tuesday, with first pitch at Bobcat Ballpark slated for 6 p.m.

Tuesday’s contest will broadcast on ESPN+ and can be heard locally on 1150 AM/93.7 FM The Zone. Fans can follow along through live stats or on X, @AggieBaseball.

The midweek marks the 66^th meeting all-time between the programs, with the Aggies (25-6) leading the series 50-15 over the Bobcats (21-10). The two programs met at Blue Bell Park on March 17, with the Aggies claiming a 9-6 victory. In midweek games this season, Texas A&M is 7-0.

The Maroon & White are fresh off a series win over Vanderbilt, which featured a 12-0 shutout in the series finale to clinch the series. Aiden Sims received SEC Pitcher of the Week honors after pitching seven shutout innings in the rubber match, striking out eight batters.

The Aggies combined for 11 home runs in the series, marking the second consecutive conference series the lineup has accomplished the feat.

In 31 games this season, Texas A&M boasts the 15^th-best batting average (.322) in the country and ranks inside the top five national ranks in on-base percentage (.458), slugging percentage (.593), home runs (66), runs scored (309) and walks (208).

11-year-old North Texas girl shot during domestic incident, Midlothian police say

An 11-year-old girl was shot during a domestic incident in Midlothian and is recovering from non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Officers were called to the 400 block of Brook Meadow Drive on Sunday following reports of a domestic disturbance. Police say the girl was shot, but authorities do not believe she was targeted intentionally.

The child was taken to Children’s Hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening. Midlothian Police Assistant Chief Scott Brown said a subject is in custody.

Midlothian police said the investigation is ongoing and more information will be released soon.
