Pritzker downplays importance of Harris VP choice
Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker downplayed the importance of Vice President Kamala Harris’ running mate pick amid speculation he is one of the frontrunners for the position.
“We’ve seen over the last decades that who you pick as your vice president doesn’t determine whether you’re going to win a state or not,” the Democratic governor said during an appearance on ABC’s “This Week” on Sunday. “What it does determine is whether you’ve got the message right across the board.”
The comments come as Pritzker is believed to be one of the candidates in the running to join Harris on the Democratic ticket, though an NBC news report last week indicated the field had been whittled down to Arizona Sen. Mark Kelly, Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro, North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz.

Nevertheless, some reports had speculated that the Illinois governor was at least under consideration by the Harris campaign and had been sent vetting materials, something Pritzker declined to comment on during his Sunday interview.
“I’m not going to talk about that. I am going to talk about what I think is important in this campaign, and that’s winning, beating Donald Trump,” Prtizker told “This Week.”
When it comes to defeating former President Trump in the election, Pritzker argued that the “electorate is energized” since Harris launched her campaign.

“Democrats are ready to go… Her message is one that I think resonates with people,” Pritzker said of Harris, who officially replaced President Biden at the top of the ticket last week.
The Illinois governor also cited Harris’ experience as a prosecutor, arguing that her experience will resonate against Trump, who has been battling multiple legal issues since leaving office.

“She’s somebody who understands that making the case is how you win… every day prosecuting the case, especially against a 34-time convicted felon and, frankly, a congenital liar,” Pritzker said.
The Harris campaign did not immediately respond to a Fox News Digital request for comment.

A U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer fighting for his life in Minneapolis was allegedly ambushed with a shovel and broom handle by three illegal immigrants during a traffic stop that quickly spiraled into a foot chase, a violent struggle and gunfire, officials said.
Federal authorities say the chaotic scene began Wednesday evening when agents conducted a targeted traffic stop for a Venezuelan illegal immigrant who was released into the U.S. under former President Joe Biden.
What followed, they said, was an attempt to evade arrest that ended with one of the attackers shot and all three in custody.
On Thursday, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) identified the illegal immigrants as Julio Cesar Sosa-Celis, Alfredo Alejandro Ajorna and Gabriel Alejandro Hernandez-Ledezma, all Venezuelan nationals now in ICE custody.

DHS said federal officers were attempting to arrest Sosa-Celis in Minneapolis when he fled the scene in his vehicle, crashed into a parked car and ran on foot.
The pursuing officer caught up with Sosa-Celis and tried to take him into custody, at which point he began to resist and violently assault the officer.
As the two struggled on the ground, two individuals emerged from a nearby apartment and began striking the officer with a snow shovel and a broom handle, DHS said. Sosa-Celis broke free and allegedly struck the officer as well before the agent, fearing for his life, fired a defensive shot that struck Sosa-Celis in the leg.

Despite being wounded, Sosa-Celis and the other two men retreated into the apartment and barricaded themselves inside.
ICE ultimately arrested all three suspects and took them into custody. The officer and Sosa-Celis were both hospitalized following the confrontation.
“What we saw last night in Minneapolis was an attempted murder of federal law enforcement,” DHS Secretary Kristi Noem said. “Our officer was ambushed and attacked by three individuals who beat him with snow shovels and the handles of brooms. Fearing for his life, the officer fired a defensive shot.”

Noem blasted local leadership, saying Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey and Gov. Tim Walz must “get their city under control” and accusing them of encouraging resistance against law enforcement, which she said is “putting the people of Minnesota in harm’s way.”
DHS said Sosa-Celis is a criminal illegal alien from Venezuela with prior convictions who was released by Minnesota authorities before ICE could lodge a detainer.

Ajorna and Hernandez-Ledezma also entered the U.S. illegally and, according to DHS, failed to comply with immigration proceedings.
All three remain in ICE custody as authorities review the case.

Brief yet heavy snow showers will continue through Friday in Milwaukee
Drone view of a snow covered southeast Wisconsin after snowstorm
Check out a view from a drone of a snow covered southeast Wisconsin after a snowstorm Nov. 29-30, 2025, that left several inches of snow across the area.
After an overnight snowfall, more snow showers are on the way for Milwaukee this weekend.
Two waves of overnight snowfall – between roughly 10 p.m. and 4 a.m. – left most of southeast Wisconsin with about 2 inches of snow on Friday, Jan. 16, according to Michaela Heeren, a meteorologist with the Milwaukee/Sullivan National Weather Service office.
Snow is expected to continue on-and-off through Friday afternoon, with temperatures reaching highs of 33 to 34 degrees, Heeren said. The relatively warmer temperatures means the snow showers will be intermittent but heavy.
The Friday evening commute may be impacted, Heeren said.
“The roads aren’t necessarily bad this morning, but there are enough people on the road to lead to some slowdowns,” she said. “The main concern for visibility is this afternoon. If you encounter low visibility, make sure you go slow and have your headlights on.”
After Friday’s warmer weather, temperatures will dip to highs in the 20s by Saturday, Jan. 17, and the mid-to -high teens by Sunday, Jan. 18, Heeren said.
Lighter snow showers are expected to continue throughout Saturday, before tapering off in the evening. Milwaukee may see up to an inch of snow accumulation.
An additional swath of snowfall Sunday may bring another inch of snow, potentially two if showers are heavier, Heeren said.
