David Trimble, former first minister and key architect of Good Friday Agreement, dead at 77

David Trimble, a former Northern Eire first minister who helped finish many years of violence, has died on the age of 77. 

The Ulster Unionist Get together, which Trimble led from 1995 to 2005, stated in a press release the unionist politician died on Monday “following a brief sickness.”

Trimble was instrumental within the 1998 Good Friday Settlement that ended three many years of violent battle in Northern Eire often called “The Troubles.”

The UUP was Northern Eire’s largest Protestant unionist get together when, led by Trimble, it agreed to the Good Friday peace accord.

Though a hardliner unionist when he was youthful, Trimble grew to become a politician whose efforts in compromise grew to become pivotal in bringing collectively unionists and nationalists in Northern Eire’s new power-sharing authorities.

Trimble shared the 1998 Nobel Peace Prize with Catholic average chief John Hume, head of the Social Democratic and Labour Get together, for his or her work.

Trimble misplaced his seat in Britain’s Parliament in 2005 and shortly after he resigned as get together chief.
