Wyoming Legislature Recap — Day 9

• The Wyoming Freedom Caucus was successful with its goal of passing five core pieces of legislation in the first 10 days of the 2025 session. Now, the real test awaits as it’ll be up to the state Senate to decide if the bills are up to snuff.

• A pair of bills that would separate the use of public bathrooms, showers and locker rooms by biological sex cleared committees Friday in the Wyoming House and Senate.

• There are no designated “sanctuary cities” to protect illegal immigrants in Wyoming but a bill banning sanctuary cities still passed a House committee 7-1 Friday.

• After vocal opposition from sheriffs around Wyoming, a legislative committee Friday killed a bill that would have required every sheriff in the state to enter into federal immigration contracts.

• A bill requiring testing of Wyoming water supplies for the presence of abortion drugs passed a House committee Friday.

Legislation that would prohibit mandatory mask, vaccine and COVID-19 testing in Wyoming sailed through the House on a 45-16 vote.

Bits And Pieces: At least three members of the Legislature wore bright, plaid sport coats on Friday. Sen. Mike Gierau, D-Jackson, told Cowboy State Daily there was no coordination between he and Sen. Bob Ide, R-Casper, and Rep. Reuben Tarver, R-Gillette, on the fashion decision. … A number of city council membersfrom around Wyoming were at the Capitol on Friday, with some like Evansville Mayor Candace Machado testifying on bills. This followed on the heels of the state’s county commissioners, who were at the Capitol on Thursday.
