Hartnell’s Smith to play football this fall at Utah Tech
Cade Smith, who earned all-conference honors on offense and defense last season for Hartnell College, will be a defensive back this coming fall at Utah Tech.
Formerly known as Dixie State in St. George, Utah, Smith returned to the defensive side of the football for the first time in three years last fall for the Panthers.
The former Salinas High standout finished among the state leaders in interceptions with seven, while leading the Panthers with 77 tackles.
Smith also caught 31 passes for 485 yards and five touchdowns – all team highs. The 6-foot-3 junior finished with 66 catches in two seasons at Hartnell.
Smith caught 61 passes for 1,008 yards and 12 touchdowns as a senior at Salinas in 2019, and led the team in interceptions in earning a spot on The Herald’s All-County football team.
