San Francisco Starbucks store pushes to unionize
SAN FRANCISCO – The motion to unionize Starbucks shops continues to percolate. A San Francisco retailer within the Castro says they filed for union recognition final week.
Staff United WSRJB-SEIU tweeted on Tuesday for supporters to swing by and order their espresso “union robust.”
Final month, employees at two Starbucks shops in Santa Cruz voted to unionize, making them the primary California shops of the espresso chain to take action.
50 different Starbucks areas throughout the nation have voted to unionize since December. Nonetheless, a vote this week to unionize at a retailer in Mill Valley failed by one vote.
Causes employees gave to unionize in prior cases have included; safety points, wages and a scarcity of assist from higher administration.
Starbucks maintains that they’re stronger with out unions.
Earlier this month employees at an Ithaca, New York claimed Starbucks was union busting when a retailer that unionized was closed, allegedly as a result of employees’ activism. Starbucks stated they open and shut shops as a part of its common operations.
The SBWorkers United Twitter account stated there are 150 unionized Starbucks shops whole and added context by saying six months in the past, there have been zero.
