Giants' Zack Minasian joins Angels' Perry as brothers GMs
SAN FRANCISCO — Zack Minasian and was promoted to general manager of the San Francisco Giants on Friday, joining the Los Angeles Angels’ Perry Minasian to make the brothers both big league GMs.
The 41-year-old Zack Minasian had been the Giants’ vice president of professional scouting since 2022, three years after he joined San Francisco following 14 years with the Milwaukee Brewers.
Perry Minasian became the Angels’ GM in November 2020.
Elevating Zack was Buster Posey’s first big move since replacing Farhan Zaidi as president of baseball operations.
During his stint in Milwaukee, Minasian was special adviser for baseball operations, director of professional scouting, manager of minor league scouting, personnel/coordinator of pro scouting and baseball operations assistant.
“There is so much to appreciate about this organization – an existing nucleus of talent on both the major league roster and throughout the minor league system, a passionate fan base, an incredible alumni group and the organization’s commitment to the community,” Minasian said in a statement.
Posey, a former All-Star catcher, was hired on on Sept. 30 after the Giants finished 80-82 in manager Bob Melvin’s first season, with one more victory than in 2023. San Francisco hasn’t reached the playoffs since winning the NL West in 2021.
The 37-year-old Posey retired in November 2021 and joined the club’s ownership group in September 2022.
“Zack has brought a wealth of knowledge and a lot of experience to the organization in his six years here,” Posey said in a statement. “He’s also a thorough talent evaluator.”

Photos: Nightmare on Front Street's spookiest Halloween costumes
San Francisco’s Front Street transformed into a ghoulishly boozy block party Thursday as residents came out to rage in their Halloween finest.
The downtown Entertainment Zone, which has welcomed legal public drinking events since September, hosted the “Nightmare on Front Street” event between 2 and 10 p.m. The party featured four haunting hours of Halloween jams from a live band and two costume contests.
Participating merchants also dressed up and served Halloween specials like potion drinks and “monster” pretzels. The event was, to borrow a phrase from the city press release about it, “spooktacular.”
Our photographer spotted everything from a billboard attorney turf war to conjoined cherries at Front Street’s raging Halloween party. See some of the best snaps below.

San Francisco Giants Have Reportedly Found Their New General Manager
The San Francisco Giants have been undergoing a huge change to the franchise this offseason. After firing Farhan Zaidi, they hired Buster Posey to be the new President of Baseball Operations and he has been looking for a general manager. According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, San Francisco is expected to announce Zack Minasian will serve the role.
Minasian will be elevated from his previous role as Vice President of Professional Scouting for the team, being hired by Farhan Zaidi in 2019. Buster Posey had stated multiple times that he was looking for someone with a background in scouting to take over the role, so Minasian fits that criteria well.
Before his time with the Giants, Minasian spent 14 seasons with the Milwaukee Brewers where he served in roles such as Professional Scouting Director and Manager of Minor League Scouting. His lengthy background in the scouting world will give Posey what he was looking for.
A hire from within the team isn’t exactly surprising, but most thought they would want to go outside of the organization to bring in some new thoughts under Posey. However an in-house hire was always a possibility, but most thought it would be Jeremy Shelley, who has been with the team for over 20 years.
Minasian’s hire means that he and his brother Perry, the GM of the Los Angeles Angels, are the first pair of brothers to be active general managers at the same time. He is also the godson of legendary Los Angeles Dodgers manager Tommy Lasorda.
With the new general manager hire under the their belt, San Francisco can now put their focus fully into the offseason. Rumored to be in the running for players like Juan Soto and Roki Sasaki, as well as multiple trades, Minasian will have a handful right away.
