Pac-12 baseball tournament field set: Oregon State Beavers land No. 2 seed, Ducks settle for 6th seed
The Oregon State Beavers scored a No. 2 seed and the Oregon Ducks settled for a No. 6 seed at next week’s Pac-12 baseball tournament, which will feature an expanded field and a new format in Scottsdale, Arizona.
The nine-team event will have three days of pool play and include three teams in each pool. The winner of the pools — plus one wild card team — will advance to a single-elimination semifinal round, and the winner of those games play for the championship.
The tournament runs Tuesday through Saturday at Scottsdale Stadium, with pool play starting Tuesday at 10 a.m. The championship game will be held Saturday at 7 p.m.
The 10th-ranked Beavers will play in Pool B against the fifth-seeded Arizona Sun Devils and eighth-seeded Arizona Wildcats.
The Ducks will play in Pool A against the top-seeded Stanford Cardinal and ninth-seeded Cal Bears.
Pool C will include the third-seeded Washington Huskies, fourth-seeded USC Trojans and seventh-seeded UCLA Bruins.
Last year’s tournament — the first in conference history — featured eight teams and a traditional double-elimination format. But long games, delayed start times and wild, early-morning finishes sparked changes in year two of the event.
