Oregon vs. Texas Tech: Updated point spread, predictions ahead of Week 2

The last week has been a bit strange in the betting world for fans of the Oregon Ducks.

We talked earlier this week about the betting line for Oregon’s Week 2 game against the Texas Tech Red Raiders. When it came out, some were surprised at how low the spread — Oregon -6.5 — was considering the Ducks’ massive Week 1 victory, and the Red Raiders’ Week 1 upset loss to Wyoming.

Sports bettors took advantage of that line, and now Oregon vs. Texas Tech has become one of the most popular bets in the nation this week, with over 90% of wagers coming in on the Ducks to cover the spread.

Despite all of that, the line did not move, leading me to believe that sportsbooks are hoping more money will come in on Oregon.

We’ve got updated info on injuries and weather conditions, but still no answers as to what Vegas knows that we don’t. Regardless, here are the updated betting odds according to BetMGM:

The Lines

Troy Wayrynen-USA TODAY Sports

  • Oregon Ducks -6.5 (-110)
  • Texas Tech Red Raiders +6.5 (-110)
  • Oregon Ducks Moneyline (-250)
  • Texas Tech Red Raiders Moneyline (+200)
  • Total: 68.5

Analysis: The only things that changed were the over/under, which went up by two points to 68.5 since Monday, and the moneyline numbers for each team. Both Oregon (previously -225) and Texas Tech (previously +275) became less valuable per the moneyline, which means that a lot of the money coming in likely was on outright victors, rather than the spread.

Injury Report

On the Oregon side of things, the Ducks look to be pretty healthy coming into this game from what we can tell. While a lot of players missed the opener — Noah Whittington, Evan Williams, Mase Funa, Kris Hutson, Casey Kelly — it appears that there are only two at the moment that we feel comfortable ruling out:

  • LB Jestin Jacobs
  • OL Nishad Strother

For Texas Tech, a pair of defenders are expected to miss the game on Saturday, per head coach Joey McGuire:

  • LB Jacob Rodriguez
  • LB Isaac Smith
