Isolated storm chances continue for parts of New Mexico this weekend
Josh’s Friday Night Forecast
Drier air and hotter temperatures have continued to spread across northern New Mexico today. This has brought very fewer thunderstorms to northern and northwestern parts of the state this afternoon. A few storms across northeastern New Mexico have become strong this afternoon, while isolated storms have developed across southern and southeastern New Mexico.
Temperatures will remain just as hot Saturday afternoon. Rain and thunderstorm chances will increase across the eastern half of the state, while much of western, northern, and central New Mexico stays mostly dry.
High temperatures will cool a few degrees Sunday and Monday as a large area of high pressure remains well north of New Mexico. This will also allow a surge of monsoon moisture to move in from the east and southeast. While low-level moisture will increase across the state, forecast models have trended drier in the mid and upper levels of the atmosphere. Storms are still expected to develop Sunday and Monday afternoon, but coverage may not be as widespread as earlier forecasts suggested. Storms will also begin moving from east to west during the afternoon and evening. This pattern is expected to continue through the middle of next week, with drier air returning in the mid-levels and potentially limiting thunderstorm coverage.

Friends gather to remember Albuquerque homicide victim
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – A memorial was held Monday night for Dante Conley, who was murdered on Saturday at his home on the 1100 block of Arizona Street.
Conley was 34 years old, and people at the vigil remembered him as taken too soon.
“He always had this big smile on his face, he was always a very positive and creative force in our community. He’s definitely going to be missed a lot,” said Joel Brandon, one of Conley’s friends.
Albuquerque police arrested Collin Terrazas and accused him of the murder after a SWAT standoff at Journal Center on Sunday.
Police said Terrazas tried to set Conley’s house on fire.
Police said Terrazas went to a local smoke shop after the killing covered in blood and said he killed someone. Detectives used video surveillance to track him.
Terrazas is expected to face a judge Tuesday.

St. Felix Pantry launches raffle for AC unit
RIO RANCHO, N.M. – St. Felix Pantry has launched a $40 raffle for a $25,000 AC unit with installation as it works to support the food needs of more than 600 guests a week.
During the holidays, food pantries often see strong donations, but St. Felix Pantry leaders said this time of year brings a greater need for food and money.
The pantry in Rio Rancho has teamed up with Affordable Service for the raffle. People can buy a ticket for $40 for a chance to win the air conditioning unit, and the prize includes installation.
State law does not allow online ticket sales for the raffle, so people must go to the pantry or Affordable Service to buy a ticket.
The drawing is set for Aug. 22 at the Rio Rancho Events Center.
The pantry has no income restriction, and people can pick up food once a week with a New Mexico ID.
