Nevada City, CA – National Weather Service has issued western Nevada County’s first Red Flag Warning of the season for critical fire weather tonight through Saturday. Wildfire potential is expected to peak on Friday.

The Red Flag Warning is issued due to high winds and low humidity, conditions that can cause easy fire starts and the potential for rapid fire spread. “Don’t let your guard down after the recent rains, which will dry up quickly. We are still under a burn ban and in peak fire season,” said Nevada County’s Office of Emergency Services Program Manager Paul Cummings.

During a Red Flag Warning, never burn, do not use equipment outdoors that may create a spark and always check towing equipment and eliminate dragging hazards.

Fed Flag Warning - take precautions

Here are tips to prepare for the fire weather:

In an emergency, law enforcement will issue evacuation warnings or evacuation orders to impacted areas through a CodeRED Emergency Alert, although not every incident will require an alert.

Evacuation warnings or orders are issued by an evacuation zone. To understand whether your residence is under an evacuation warning or order, you need to know your zone name. Zones and emergency alerts work together to save time when minutes count.

PG&E PSPS Event Cancelled

The PG&E Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) planned along the HWY 80 corridor between Emigrant Gap and Norden has been canceled. However, due to high winds, PG&E power outages may occur due to down branches or trees into powerlines triggering PG&E’s Enhanced Powerline Safety Settings or “fast trip” settings.
