Nevada gaming board halts sports betting scheme
The Nevada Gaming Control Board has halted a scheme by sportsbook employees to steal money from sports betting kiosks, according to an 8newsnow.com report.
The board began investigating a scheme in Dec. 2022 by employees of William Hill, a Nevada sports book operator, who allegedly made fraudulent cash adjustments at sports betting kiosks, resulting in a more than $70,000 loss.
The company fired at least three employees as a result of the investigation. A William Hill customer service agent reviewed customer information from a kiosk and adjusted the money amount.
The suspects used personal cellphones to determine what kiosks to alter, according to documents. Once the adjustments were made, a conspirator would print and redeem altered vouchers for cash.
Police have arrested one suspect while a warrant was active Wednesday for another suspect and others are expected to face charges.
