Mayson Reichartz allowed four runs over 5⅓ innings to earn the victory as No. 2M Palo Verde topped No. 4M Green Valley 6-5 in a winners bracket game in the Class 5A baseball playoffs.

Luke Herrera went 2-for-3 with a triple and an RBI for Palo Verde (23-10), which fought off a late rally by Green Valley (14-18).

The Panthers host Coronado in the winners bracket Wednesday at 4 p.m. The Gators play a 4 p.m. elimination game at Liberty.

■ No. 2D Coronado 6, No. 1M Faith Lutheran 3: Louis Dion homered for the Cougars (21-11), who scored three runs in the final two innings to defeat the Crusaders (23-8-1). Evan Festa went 3-for-4 with an RBI to help Coronado, and teammate Vinny Kistle went 2-for-2 with a triple. Faith Luthern hosts Foothill in the losers bracket Wednesday at 4 p.m.

■ No. 3D Foothill 6, No. 1D Shadow Ridge 2: Landon Angelo and Josh Vaughn each went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI as the Falcons (21-11-1) grabbed momentum with a four-run first inning in their victory over the Mustangs (16-16). Tyler Straily earned the victory for Foothill, pitching 4⅔ innings while allowing two hits and striking out five.

■ No. 1M Shadow Ridge 16, No. 2D Bishop Gorman 3: Abby Covington went 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs in the Mustangs’ victory over the Gaels. Josslin Law struck out 10 while earning a complete-game victory for Shadow Ridge, which took control with three runs in the fifth inning and four more in the sixth. Gorman will play a losers bracket game at Arbor View Wednesday at 4 p.m.

■ No. 1D Arbor View 14, No. 3D Faith Lutheran 2: Malaya Tellis went 4-for-4 with a home run, a double and three RBIs as the Aggies had a nine-run third inning and cruised to a 14-2 win over the Crusaders. Ava Henderson earned the five-inning victory for Arbor View, striking out 10 while holding Faith Lutheran to two hits.

The Doral Academy boys golf team shot a two-day total of 66-over 634 to claim the Class 4A state title Tuesday at Primm Valley Golf Club in Nipton, California.

The Dragons won by 43 strokes over Green Valley (677). Sierra Vista was third (691) and Centennial was fourth (696). Only four 4A teams qualified for the state tournament.

Sky Pointe’s Drake Harvey won the individual title by five strokes at 6-under 136. Doral Academy’s Michael Edwards finished second at 1-under 141, and Centennial’s Matthew Utter was third at 3-over 145.

Harvey, who also won the 4A title last year, shot a tournament-best 6-under 65 on Tuesday to propel him to the title.

It’s the first team title for Doral Academy, which had a 20-stroke lead after the first round Monday. The Dragons had three golfers place in the top five to help them claim the title. In addition to Edwards, Luke Cheplak finished fourth at 5-over 147 and Bradley Bourn was fifth at 9-over 151.

In the 5A Southern Region tournament, Shadow Ridge earned the team title with a two-day score of 6-over 574 to win by nine strokes over Coronado (583) at Primm Valley.

Bishop Gorman finished third at 18-over 586. Shadow Ridge, Coronado and Gorman will be the South’s three team qualifiers for the state tournament May 15 and 16 at Mountain Falls Golf Club in Pahrump.

Gorman’s R.J. Arone won the individual region title by four strokes at 7-under 135. Shadow Ridge’s Bridger Johnson and Coronado’s Anderson Lee tied for second at 3-under 139.

Centennial center fielder Ashley Madonia said the Bulldogs’ success offensively has powered their current seven-game winning streak.

The senior’s bat played a key role in that.

Madonia went 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs to help the Bulldogs claim a 5-1 road win against Liberty on April 30, which let them enter the 5A Southern Region playoffs on a roll. She was named Nevada Preps Girls Athlete of the Week for her efforts.

“The one thing that was working for me in the game against Liberty was my confidence in myself and knowing my team had my back,” Madonia said. “When I hit that home run, I just saw all of my hard work finally coming into the game.”

Let’s get to know this week’s girls athlete of the week. (Note: Answers have been edited for clarity and length.)

Nevada Preps: Who’s a softball player you look up to and try to model your game after?

Madonia: The one athlete I look up to is A.J. Andrews. She played for Louisiana State and she was one of the best outfielders in softball history. I just would like to play like her one day.

NP: If you weren’t playing softball, what sport would you be trying?

Madonia: I would be doing gymnastics because that sport is really tough and it makes you strong as an individual.

NP: What’s been your favorite memory in your softball playing career thus far?

Madonia: One of my favorite memories of playing softball so far has been going to the 5A state tournament in 2023, playing at the top level of high school and making it to the state championship game.

NP: Do you have any pregame rituals or game-day superstitions that you follow?

Madonia: I have to eat at Cafe Zupas with my mom. I did it at the beginning of the season and now we have to do it every game day.
