1 missing, 2 dead after helicopter crashes into ocean in Hawaii
KAUA’I, Hawaii (TND) — One person is dead and two others are missing after a helicopter crashed into waters about a quarter mile offshore Kaua’i, Hawaii, according to officials.
A preliminary report stated hikers along the Kalalau Trail saw the helicopter crash around 1:20 p.m. Thursday and reported the incident to dispatch.
The crash involved an Ali’i Kaua’i Air Tours and Charters helicopter.
“Our hearts go out to the families impacted by this tragedy,” Police Chief Todd Raybuck said. “We will continue working with our partners to locate the missing individuals and provide support during this difficult time. Our multi-agency response remains focused on the search and recovery efforts.”
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) put a temporary flight restriction in the area as the search operation continues.
The United States Coast Guard, personnel with the Kaua‘i Fire Department, Rescue 3 aboard Air 1, the Kaua‘i Emergency Management Agency, the Hawai‘i Emergency Management Agency, personnel with the Ocean Safety Bureau, and the Kaua‘i Police Department responded to the incident.
According to the FAA, the helicopter was a Robinson R44.
The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board will investigate with the NTSB in charge of the investigation.

Car drives into Sunshine Market in Honolulu
HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – A car rammed into Sunshine Market, off Lusitana Street, around 5:45 a.m., on Thursday, according to the Honolulu Fire Department.
Responding firefighters and police officers secured the area, helped the tow truck service remove the blue vehicle, and provided stabilization to the building.
HFD says the building owner requested the building to be sealed.
The scene was cleared by 9:46 a.m., and no one was injured.
