Rockford man dies after falling at St. Mary’s Glacier in Colorado

CLEAR CREEK COUNTY, Colo. (WIFR) – A Rockford man died Thursday, June 13, while hiking in the Colorado mountains, according to the Clear Creek County Coroner’s Office.

David Mecklenburg, 56, was hiking at St. Mary’s Glacier in Idaho Springs when crews were called for reports of a person stranded on a cliff.

According to KKTV, a rescue team later learned Mecklenberg had fallen and was unresponsive. Flight for Life was called in to help, but Mecklenberg died before rescuers got to him.

Mecklenburg was the Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for Stillman Bank. Stillman Bank says Mecklenburg attended Guilford High School and recently celebrated 30 years with the financial institution.
