2 arrested after wild pursuit ends on railroad tracks

Authorities arrested two suspects following a chaotic pursuit on surface streets, a freeway and railroad tracks in Riverside Friday night.

Preliminary reports indicate that officers were dispatched to calls of shots being fired in the 2900 block of Prospect Avenue around 7 p.m.

Riverside Police Department officials confirmed to KTLA early Saturday morning that a man was reportedly shot in the arm or shoulder.

Upon arriving, officers observed a vehicle that was said to have matched the description of the one connected to the alleged shooting and began a pursuit.

The car, which appeared to be a newer model Ford Mustang SUV, fled on city streets and eventually onto the 91 Freeway where it collided with the center divider multiple times.

The suspect vehicle then exited freeway at Spruce Street where it “intentionally” drove on to the railroad tracks in an attempt to get away from officers, RPD said; however, the vehicle became disabled a short distance away.

Video obtained by KTLA shows the disabled SUV sitting on the tracks with damage to one of its rear tires.

Police confirmed that the man and woman inside the car both exited the vehicle and surrendered.  The male suspect was seen being loaded onto a gurney and into an ambulance while the woman was placed in the back of a squad car.

The victim of the shooting was said to have been transported to a nearby hospital by friends or family, authorities added.
