Byron Donalds picks up endorsement from fellow House Republican as he eyes Florida governorship

Rep. Vern Buchanan, R-Fla., has endorsed Trump-backed gubernatorial hopeful Rep. Byron Donalds, R-Fla., for Florida governor.
“My friend, Byron Donalds, is a fearless Conservative and MAGA patriot. I have worked closely with him in Congress and know from personal experience his fight, tenacity, and effectiveness. He will be a great executive for our Sunshine State,” Buchanan said in a statement.
Donalds announced his candidacy last month after President Donald Trump publicly pledged his endorsement while urging the lawmaker to run.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis — who is currently serving his second term — may not run again in the 2026 cycle.
“Honored to receive my first Congressional endorsement from a friend and trusted conservative leader: Rep. @VernBuchanan. Vern and I have fought side-by-side in Congress for our SW Florida community and the Sunshine State. As governor, I’ll bring that same fight to Tallahassee,” Donalds declared in a post on X.

While speaking on the “Brian Kilmeade Show,” Scott noted that he is “glad” Trump endorsed Donalds.

Dem House candidate's resurfaced posts call for trans children to have 'free' access to medical services

A Democratic candidate for Congress in Florida is being criticized for pushing “radical gender ideology” after resurfaced social media posts show him advocating for children to receive gender transition treatment.
“Banning health care for any human being is a violation of human rights,” Josh Weil, Democratic candidate for Congress in FL-06 posted on X, then known as Twitter, in March 2021.
“#TransRightsAreHumanRights and while we’re at it #MedicareForAll so that all trans children have free, and safe access to the medical services they need.”
Weil was responding to a post from the ACLU that said, “BREAKING: Arkansas has become the first state to ban health care for trans youth.”

In another post, Weil objected to a bill in Iowa that, according to the user he responded to, “would require teachers to give parents 7-days notice if they plan to ask their kids about their preferred pronouns.”
“In addition to all the harm this will do to trans and enby [nonbinary] youth, this bill will 100% result in a loss of teachers,” Weil posted on X. “Every time, in every state, whenever lawmakers try to drop their baggage and bs on teachers, teachers leave.”

Fox News Digital reached out to the Weil campaign but did not receive a response.
“Democrats have learned absolutely nothing,” NRCC Spokeswoman Maureen O’Toole told Fox News Digital.
“Not only are they lighting donors’ money on fire by investing in a district where they have no path to victory, but they’re also choosing to invest in a candidate who has pushed radical gender ideology that is wildly unpopular with voters. Josh Weil is so dangerous, even AOC and David Hogg – the vice chair of the DNC – are running from him.”

Weil, a public school teacher from Orlando, is running against Republican State Sen. Randy Fine to replace former GOP Rep. Michael Waltz, who moved into the Trump administration to serve as the president’s national security adviser.
Early voting has started in the election, which will be held on Tuesday, April 1.

Former US Attorney Jessica Aber, 43, found dead at Virginia residence: police

A former United States attorney was found dead in Virginia Saturday morning, just two months after leaving office.
Jessica D. Aber, 43, worked as the U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia from 2021 to 2025. Appointed by former President Joe Biden, she served in the role until resigning Jan. 20.
In a news release Saturday, the Alexandria Police Department (APD) confirmed Aber’s death, reporting it received a call about an “unresponsive woman” at around 9:18 a.m. Saturday.
While authorities did not release Aber’s cause of death, a family friend told Fox News Digital on Sunday that police believe her death “was the result of a longstanding medical issue.”

“As a matter of protocol, an investigation is underway surrounding the circumstances of her death,” the APD said in its statement. “The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner of Virginia will determine the cause and manner of death.”
According to Aber’s Department of Justice biography, she graduated from William & Mary Law School in 2006. Her role involved “[leading] a staff of approximately 300 prosecutors, civil litigators and support personnel across four divisions located in Alexandria, Richmond, Norfolk and Newport News.”
In her resignation statement, Aber said working as a U.S. attorney was “an honor beyond measure.”
“I am deeply grateful to senators Mark Warner and Tim Kaine and to President Biden for the opportunity to lead this office and to Attorney General Garland for his steadfast leadership,” Aber said at the time. “I am proud of the work we have done with our federal, state and local law enforcement partners to enforce the law and build community trust.”
U.S. Attorney Erik S. Siebert, Aber’s successor, said he was “heartbroken beyond words” to hear of Aber’s death Saturday.

“She was unmatched as a leader, mentor and prosecutor, and she is simply irreplaceable as a human being,” Siebert said. “We remain in awe of how much she accomplished in her all-too-brief time in this world. Her professionalism, grace and legal acumen set the standard.”
The attorney said “each of us in the Eastern District of Virginia will look to her example and endeavor to live up to that standard.”
“Jess was a proud Virginian from high school through college and throughout her career,” Siebert said. “She loved EDVA, and EDVA loved her back. We remain committed to her life’s work, a commitment to seeking justice, as she would have wanted.”

The Coast Guard on Saturday evening, just before 7 p.m., said it was suspending the search for three passengers, including an adult and two children, after a boat capsized on the St. Johns River in Jacksonville, Florida, near Goat Island, leaving one person dead.
Around 7 p.m. Friday, Coast Guard Sector Jacksonville received an alert of a capsized 18-foot vessel with four people atop the overturned boat and four others trapped underneath.
The four people on top of the boat were rescued. None of the passengers were wearing life jackets, the Coast Guard said.
The Coast Guard said it had searched for 17 hours, covering 270 square miles, and the search would be suspended, “pending the development of new information.”

“We extend our deepest sympathies to the family and loved ones of those missing,” Lt. Cmdr. We are truly grateful to our partner agencies for their relentless efforts and unwavering support.”
The Coast Guard launched a rescue boat and helicopter crew, and the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission assisted in the search.
“The four people on top of the vessel were rescued by a Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office marine unit, and one person was recovered from the water unresponsive,” the agency said in a news release Saturday. “A Coast Guard Station Mayport rescue surface swimmer attempted to contact the people reportedly underneath the vessel but received no responses.
“Divers from the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office searched underneath the vessel but did not locate any people.”
