CHARLESTON, W.Va. –– A series of weather systems are moving through West Virginia in the latter half of the week and will bring winter weather with them.
Ray Young, Meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Charleston said the current system is expected to be followed overnight by cold temperatures. The system may produce upslope snow in the higher elevations of the state for Wednesday into Thursday.
“They have some winter storm warnings up there in the areas that are going to get it but that’s mainly going to be an elevation storm with the lowlands not expected to get much of anything other than in the air, but not on the roads,” said Young.
The more concerning system for Young is the cold temperatures and a Clipper system on Friday.
“It’s just a clipper system which typically gives us one to three inches of snow, but the timing of it is potentially bad, It’s going to be arriving around or shortly after the rush hour commute on Friday and in some places it could impact the rush hour commute and cause problems. Temperatures on Thursday night will be plenty cold enough to cause it to stick quickly,” he added.
The coldest day of the week will be Saturday with an arctic blast moving into the state. Highs in the lowlands will only be in the 20’s and the higher elevations won’t make it out of the teens for the weekend.
