Students show off social studies skills at annual WVDE fair
CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A whole bunch of grade faculty college students from round West Virginia confirmed off their social research expertise in Charleston on Friday.
West Virginia Division of Schooling hosted its 2022 West Virginia Social Research Truthful on the Charleston Coliseum and Conference Middle, the primary in-person honest since 2019 as a result of COVID-19.
Greater than 500 college students submitted 282 initiatives this 12 months. Classes for the competitors included anthropology, economics, geography, political science, psychology, sociology, state and native research, US Historical past, and world historical past.
Dustin Lambert, state Social Research Coordinator at West Virginia Division of Schooling advised MetroNews that 36 counties have been represented on Friday. He stated each county was represented properly.
“College students get obsessed with schooling, they get obsessed with studying. That is the biggest scholar occasion that we host on the division of schooling,” Lambert stated.
The State Social Research Truthful acknowledges the achievements of scholars and encourages them to follow data and communication expertise, considering and problem-solving expertise, and interpersonal and self-directional expertise.
Winners have been awarded within the following classes: Grades 3-5; Grades 6-8; and Grades 9-12. Lambert stated judges are unbiased volunteers from all around the state.
“I used to be a highschool instructor and center faculty principal earlier than I got here right here and I’m all the time amazed by what these college students know and what they be taught themselves. I really like how they can articulate what they’ve discovered,” Lambert stated.
