Republican candidate for W.Va. House disqualified after moving out-of-state

A candidate for the West Virginia House of Delegates has been disqualified after moving out-of-state, records said.

Tyler Bowen advanced in this year’s Republican primary to represent District 27, which encompasses portions of Cabell and Wayne counties.

The State Election Committee met Monday, ruling Bowen failed to satisfy eligibility requirements.

Wayne County Republican Executive Committee Chair Holly Francis informed the SEC Bowen had moved to Georgia, accepting a position at Wellstar Children’s Hospital.

Francis shared a social media post from Bowen:

I let the Secretary of State’s Office know back in April (before the primaries) that I was accepting a job that would have me moving out-of-district and they couldn’t have cared less. So I made an announcement, shut down my campaign page and asked for folks to vote for the other guy. . .then I won. Oops.

The State Election Commission has authorized the Republican Executive Committee to fill the vacancy.

That candidate will go on to face Democrat Ric Griffith in November.
