Kneads has signed a long-term lease to assume operations of the existing restaurant space at Thompson Washington D.C., located at 221 Tingey Street SE, Washington, D.C. The approximately 5,500-square-foot space will feature a signature pastry counter, full-service bar, spacious dining room, dedicated study area for guests to work remotely, and an expansive outdoor patio.

The Navy Yard café will become Kneads’ second Washington, D.C. location, joining its highly anticipated Logan Circle location, which is also slated to open later this year.

WASHINGTON (7News) — A D.C. man was accused of assaulting his 4-year-old son, kidnapping and assaulting the mother of his children and setting her friend’s apartment door on fire, according to a federal attorneys on Monday.

In a 30-count indictment from a D.C. Superior Court grand jury, U.S. Attorney’s for D.C. accused Tavante Robinson, 26, of carrying out several violent acts against family members and others between March 2025 and July 2026.

In the earliest account, officials said the mother of Robinson’s son found him with a black eye, with a witness telling police Robinson got upset with the boy and punched him.

Months later officials said Robinson frequently violated a Civil Protection Order filed by the child’s mother. On April 16, 2026, police learned that Robinson reportedly kidnapped the mother and her children from the apartment of the mother’s friend and held them for several hours, federal attorneys said.

Days later, fire crews were called to the same apartment for a fire at the door. Officials confirmed the apartment belonged to the victim’s friend and noted additional damage to the windows.

“Tavante Robinson allegedly punched his own 4-year-old child, resulting in a black eye. He later kidnapped the child’s mother and their children and set her friend’s apartment door on fire,” said U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro in a statement. “Even with a protective order issued against him, the violence continued. This behavior has no place in our community, and my office will continue to prosecute anyone who does harm and instills fear in our community.”

Among Robinson’s 30-count indictment are charges for first-degree cruelty to children, kidnapping, robbery, arson, stalking, assault with a dangerous weapon, possession of a firearm during a crime of violence, possession and use of a Molotov cocktail, obstructing justice, and various additional counts related to threats, assaultive conduct, and contempt of court orders.

WASHINGTON (7News) — Tuesday will mark one year since President Donald Trump launched a sweeping federal crackdown in the nation’s capital.

Since Aug. 11, 2025, the Make D.C. Safe and Beautiful Task Force has brought together federal, state and local law enforcement agencies, along with the National Guard, to target violent crime across D.C.

According to the U.S. Marshals Service, the task force has made more than 16,000 arrests during its first year, including 35 homicide suspects, more than 100 known gang members and more than 3,200 people on narcotics charges.

Officials also reported seizing nearly 2,000 illegal firearms and locating 25 missing children who were returned home.

“We will not relent until every community in Washington, D.C., is safe,” Attorney General Todd Blanche said in a statement.

Officials highlighted several cases handled by the task force, including the arrests of three suspects in connection with the June 2025 shooting death of 21-year-old congressional intern Eric Tarpinian, who was killed after being caught in the crossfire of a shootout in Northwest D.C.

The task force also arrested two suspects accused in the August 2025 attempted carjacking, robbery and beating of a former Department of Government Efficiency staffer.

In January, members arrested three alleged MS-13 gang members wanted on first-degree murder warrants in connection with the shooting death of a 14-year-old boy in Prince George’s County, Maryland.

“When law enforcement works together, the impact is exponential,” U.S. Marshals Service Director Gadyaces Serralta said. “The D.C. Safe and Beautiful Task Force is proof that the whole-of-government approach works.”

Federal officials said the task force will continue its operations beyond Tuesday’s anniversary.
