Indian diaspora performs Havan in Virginia for successful landing of Chandrayaan-3 – Times of India
Indian Americans are engaging in religious practices, including a ‘havan’ or fire ritual and ‘Abhishekam,’ seeking to ensure the triumph of the Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft’s lunar landing, as reported by ANI.
In a temple situated in Virginia, USA, members of the Indian diaspora conducted a ‘havan’ to invoke auspiciousness for the prosperous touchdown of Chandrayaan-3 on the lunar surface.
Chandrayaan-3 is on the verge of making history by accomplishing a landing on the unexplored southern pole of the Moon today.
As per the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), Chandrayaan-3 is primed to achieve a lunar landing on Wednesday, approximately at 18:04 hrs IST.
Reflecting upon India’s space journey, which commenced with its inaugural rocket launch in 1963 and the iconic imagery of a rocket’s nose cone being transported to the launchpad by a bicycle to position a modest payload 124 miles above Earth, Dr. Madhu Rammorthy takes pride in India’s venture beyond Earth’s orbit and now extending to the Moon.
Dr. Rammorthy, whose expertise lies in advanced aerospace and defense materials, operates a company in Bangalore that produces various components, including a high-strength fabric used for reinforcement.
He mentioned, “Among these components is a rubber gasket that employs our reinforced material, which, to my knowledge, plays a role in the Chandrayaan mission. Thus, we have a vested interest in its success. We await tomorrow with anticipation, fully confident in its success…”
India will become the fourth nation globally to accomplish this achievement, following the United States, Russia, and China, yet it will stand as the sole country to achieve a lunar south pole landing.
Chandrayaan-3’s Lander Module (LM) encompassing the lander Vikram and rover Pragyan is slated to touch down near the southern pole of the Moon at 6:04 pm on Wednesday.
Expressing her sentiments, another observer, Radhika Narayan, conveyed her immense pride in India’s accomplishments, stating, “We closely follow each of their missions and extend our best wishes. I am confident there will be numerous such triumphant missions in the future.”
Sai A. Sharma, a priest at the Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Seva Samiti temple, elucidated, “Today, we perform the ‘havan’ to bestow success upon Chandrayaan. We invoke the blessings of Lakshminarasimha Swamy and also conduct the ‘Maha Ganapati Havan.’ With the benevolence of Lakshminarasimha Swamy, this mission shall prosper.”
