Texas Rangers Youth Academy to Compete in All-Star Commissioner’s Cup Championship Game – Tomorrow, Monday, July 10

SEATTLE — The Texas Rangers Youth Academy 17U All-Star baseball team clinched a spot in Major League Baseball’s Commissioner’s Cup Championship Game tomorrow, Monday, July 10, as part of All-Star Week in Seattle.

The Rangers finished pool play with a 3-1 record, beating the Cincinnati Reds Youth Academy, MLB Compton Youth Academy, and Washington Nationals Youth Academy.

In tomorrow’s championship matchup at the University of Washington’s Husky Ballpark, the Rangers All-Stars will face the MLB New Orleans Youth Academy. First pitch is scheduled for 9 a.m. PT/11 a.m. CT.

The All-Star Commissioner’s Cup features 11 teams of youth baseball players from MLB Youth Academies and Nike Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities (RBI) programs from around the U.S. and Puerto Rico.

Making their fourth tournament appearance, the Texas Rangers Youth Academy All-Star team comprised of DFW-area high school athletes has reached the championship game for the first time in Academy history after posting a 34-8 run differential in their four pool play competitions.

In the top half of Sunday’s doubleheader, Esteban Toscano (3-3), Luis Cruz (2-2), and Jacob Ayala (2-2) led the team in hits helping secure the Rangers’ 13-3 win over the Nationals Youth Academy.

The Rangers fell 3-0 in their fourth and final game against the Seattle Mariners team represented by Baseball Beyond Borders Nike RBI. Rangers’ starting pitcher Kaleb Thompkins had 10 strikeouts through six innings pitched.
